Hello fellow wingnuts and rotorheads,

I'm looking for a manual to reference what t-shirt to wear under our flight suits. I checked the Uniform Manual and the Aviation Life Support Systems Manual online with no joy (ALSSM online is pretty dated, it says the only authorized color of flight suit is blue, yikes).

Thanks for any help.

The AIROPS manual states that you can wear white or blue underneath your flight suit; however, Change 1 of the AIROPS (just came out last week) removed the requirement for the shirt to be blue or white. Check page 7-4 of the Change 1.

I believe you can wear any color of shirt now...just my two-cents.

I don't have the manual in front of me but I think this is how it played out(??).

The command will prescribe the color for the unit. If I remember correctly, at the time we were working on the .1F it was white or blue. Then it came to our attention of the other colors. The manual was signed and already at the printers....too late to make changes. Soooo.....it's carries over to Ch 1. There were 4, maybe 5 different color shirts (white, blue, green and black). It depended on the unit's/member's particular mission PPE and undergarments requirement.

Trying to list each color or future color wasn't going to work as far as the manual updates go. The fix was to let the Command make the call. If the Skipper says everyone will wear blue, then it's blue. If he says white, then it's white. It's his/her call.

I suspect most normal unit instructions will go with white or blue for standardization purposes.

Bruce,

How is life treating you? In all honesty, I have not even looked at the new 3710 changes. Not a good thing for the unit FEB head to say but OPTEMPO is over the top. I had no idea there was yet another change for the t-shirts.

I guess I will have to get in the books.

Things are going good in Jersey...definately enjoy the flying in and around NY, Philly, & DC. As for the 3710 changes, I only skimmed over them. I'll look into it more in the near future. How much longer will you be in Washington?

Well, I hope all is well. Take care and talk to you soon!

Yea, it didn't take long. The command at ATC already sent out an email mandating our undershirts to be blue or white only.

That's too bad, I was gonna wear pink tomorrow.

I wore an orange t-shirt under my flight suit to the morning brief today. Just to see if anyone would say anything. When they did, I asked them why they had not read the new change to 3710 yet. Yes, I am a sneaky instructor.

When the CO found out of course he just laughed, shook his head and said "You sure like to push the envelope." Of course the only response to that is "If you don't push the envelope, how will you know where it is?"
