I see your profile says you're active duty in Kentucky. Unfortunately there is not a nearby air station.
Doing a little speculating, I'm guessing one of the following....(1) you are new to the CG and interested in the AMT rating but aren't sure just yet (2) or have your name on the AMT list and/or just got orders to the Airman Program. Hopefully it is the first guess.
If it's the 2nd guess and you're having second thoughts about your choice of rating, please let the Airman Program Manager know ASAP.
I'll shoot straight with you so please don't take this wrong or get discouraged. Don't go to AMT school to leave your current unit early or with the intent of changing ratings after your A school obligation. There are too many other young Coasties who want to have a career in aviation and you'd just be taking an opportunity from a shipmate. If you have any aviation questions you can email me John.H.Long@uscg.mil and I will try to help you. The Airman Program Manager is ASTC Shawn Sullivan if you have any Airman questions.
Thanks for the advice. I was asking the question for my FN he wants to be an AMT. He wasa wanting to know about the rate. I appreciate the feed back I will pass it along.

Way off the mark there shipmate. Here are the rules:
All members who attend A-School obligate themselves to serve, in that rating, for a minimum of two years OR 2 months for weeks 1-12 of A-School plus 1 month for every week over 12, which ever is longer. So, for every school longer than 12 weeks, add another month to the 24 months required of everybody for each week past 12.
