This is where you discuss your adventures in the Sand Box.

My belt rusted from the sweat and stained by DCU's. Then I went to Fort Benning for jump school and the sweat washed off more old rust and stained my ACU's. I'll give Iraq credit, never would I have thought that I could sweat enough to completely rust finished metal.

First one was fun, lots of shooting and other noise to remind me I'm alive.

This tour is nice and quiet, reminds me that all the work I did on the first one paid off Smile

we had a thermostat in our truck for ambient temp, and the hottest it got inside that HET was 241 degrees. I remember picking up 3rd ID on Tampa in early July 03 and those guys were wired tight ( I would to after being there for 16+ months). On the trip to Kuwait, they would light up anything that remotely looked suspicious. I think it was 3rd BDE.

One year aboard the USCGC Baranof in the Khwar Abd Allah river and the Umm Qasr/Al Basra region.

Defending ports, high interest boardings, joint operations w/ iraqi, aussie, English, USN. Defending the oil terminals, standing guard against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy and other "unfavorables."

I miss those calls to Bahrain every couple months and the replenishments runs to Kuwait. The XO would make us run the 5 and 10K runs every morning we were there. 135 Degree heat and EMT golf carts following us hahaha.

I wasn't in this one, except by proxy. Many of the Students I trained to be Army LPNs are involved in this war. 4 of my students have been killed.

That gnaws away at me. I'll lay awake on some nights thinking "I could have trained them better, or made the listen better, or got some of my exerience into them by osmosis or something!"

They were good kids. It was sad to see their names on the GWOT section of the moving Vietnam Wall, which now has monuments to Soldiers who have died in every war since vietname.
