There is no news in this article...STOP THE HYPE!

Title 32 guardsmen have always been denied most VA benefits...why should this change? Let the states develop education benefits for Title 32 call-up. As a matter of FACT, Title 32 duty is almost always filled with volunteers...not compulsory servitude!

By the way, the language of the Post 911 GI Bill says elgibility is for Title 10 service after September 10, 2001 (not after September 11, 2001).

The bill should have covered everyone, even older vets. With the ever-changing economy, there is no way we older vets can get re-trained for our current conditions (physical, mental, etc) and we are being denied SSDI and VA D&P comp. This is just more divide and conquer by the government. Vote them all out.

TankerMX - my husband served 25 years in the Air Force in an AGR position. He went to work every day, wore the uniform, went overseas, received benefits - medical/commissary/BX etc.... and has been denied the GI Bill. DD214 says ACTIVE DUTY RETIRED - so maybe you can help explain this to me as I seem to be receiving no answers from the VA....

The Montgomery GI Bill requires the service member contribute $1200.00 to "buy into" the program. Did your husband contribute the money?

It is not just Guardsmen. The way the bill is writen it leaves out alot. Example I was wounded in Iraq 2004, but was not medically discharged. I am currently rated at 100% but the 911 bill will only pay out at 50%. Becuse I did not spend three years in country.

With a 100% disability rating - you should apply for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program at www.vetsuccess.gov

I am now totally confused Wink I was referring to the new GI Bill - not the Montgomery GI Bill where you had to contribute towards.

My husband checked his papers last night, he is a Title 10.

Maybe this is the reason why our State Senators (Utah) did not vote for the bill because it was rushed through and not completely thought out... just my opinion.

If your husband was denied VA Educ Benefits for the Post 9/11 GI Bill then he needs to appeal and provide the VA copies of his orders showing he was Title 10.

It has been 7 weeks since we filed the appeal. We have been trying to call, lines are constantly busy.... If I was closer I would volunteer my time to help with their phone bank Wink

My husband finally was able to speak with someone yesterday at the VA. They have his letter, but did not scan in the DD214, so he had to resend it, have to wait 5 days then he needs to call again.

Originally letter from VA stated 5 weeks.
