We hear all about the VA what is the military doing? Some have been discharged with out having a med board. Then have been diagnosted with a head injury. I myself case I was diagnosed wiht a head injury at Bethesda, and Walter reed. Since then I have been getting treated at the VA hospital only to be blowen off by the Marines. When I ask about medical benifits ect.
I love the Marines but it is not suppose to be this way?

I see not much has changed since 1996, I was injured in a training accident back in 1995, the Army said I was unfit, but only wanted to pay 10% Disability Rating. I had been in almost 10 years at that time and was truly shocked that I was being thrown away like yesterdays bas news. So I decided to fight the Rating and have a Formal Medical Board, well I soon found out that since that board had a Major as the Judge and a Captain as my Counsel, that they were just going to do whatever they wanted regardless and I even tried to return to an alternate MOS that was just a desk job, but they said I was unfit. Putting all that together was hard to process, I had been injured while training for future combat missions and serving my Country and was no longer able to perform those duties, but the level of Rating was not going to provide me with anything to care for my family, so I figured they expected me to get out of the service and get a civilian job, but it was to unfit to work for them, how I was healthy enough to working for some other corporation. I did go to the Veterans Administration once I was release from Active Duty and was that they would have an appointment in 8 - 12 months, too bad that your back and neck are destroyed and you can no longer walk with crutched to support the weight that my legs were no longer able too.

So I got busy writing my Congressman instead of just fighting the local appointment office as they got yelled at all the time, having me made no difference to them. I got a hold of my State's Senior Senator and within a week the Veteran's Administration called me to get my initial rating tests completed and once the VA rated me, I was increased to 50 % and since to 100%. So clearly the only reason the Army rated me so low was so they would not have to give me my Rights and privileges that I had earned by performing my service to my country regardless of pain, rain or anything else, it was about passing the buck to the VA so I could not request to be seen on a Military Base and they make sure they get you so frustrated that you have no time to write about the way they treated you as getting the money to feed and house your family comes first.

Just thought I would let you know that you were clearly not alone, but if you e-mail me, I would be happy to work with you to be the benefits that you are entitle and in a timely manner so your family does not have to suffer any longer because you want to be a Soldier.

Good luck and take care,
