WAR FIGHTERS GET A STICK IN THE EYE FOR DEFENDING THE COUNTRY AND THE SUITS ON WALL STREET GET TO KEEP THEIR HIGH SALARIES WHILE RUNNING THE COUNTRY ECONOMY INTO THE GROUND. VETERANS NEED TO GET OUT AND VOTE DURING THIS ELECTION. IT IS TIME TO RID WASH. DC. OF THOSE IN OFFICE WHO TAKE OUR SERVICE TO COUNTRY FOR GRANTED. MANY VETS ARE LOSING THEIR HOMES AND JOBS. CHECK THE VOTING RECORDS OF YOUR ELECTED OFFICIAL'S IF THEY ARE NOT PLACING VETS FIRST, THEN THAT PERSON SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE FEDS FOUNDED 85 BILLION DOLLARS TO BAIL OUT AIG, 1 BILLION FOR GEORGIA, USSR. BUT VETS ARE IGNORED !!!!

congress at its best:
quote:
To protect its prerogative of adding billions of dollars of pork-barrel projects to defense bills, the Senate Sept. 17 passed its fiscal 2009 defense authorization bill without allowing votes on 101 pending amendments, some of them important to service personnel.

And they wonder why their approval rating is in the single digits?
But one amendment, introduced by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), would have given the Department of Defense authority to ignore up to $5 billion of "earmarks" found not in the bill but buried in the bill's thick report.
And the democrat response:
quote:
Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), chairman of the armed service committee and floor manager of the bill, said DeMint's amendment would have been "an abdication of the power of the purse" in shaping defense policy bills.

Yup, Sen. Levin is a true friend to the military.

Has United States of America become a myth? Does it still exist? A once proud, idealistic, patriotic Nation is now being destroyed by those whom we have elected to represent our needs and believes. Many of us not only have lost faith in Government (both reigning parties), but also feel ashamed to call ourselves Americans!
Power, Money and Greed has taken over this Country, we have reverted back to Servants (us) and Masters (Government Officials, Large for profit industries, foreign interests etc.). THE HEART OF THIS COUNTRY ARE OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS, used, forgotten, ignored and defrauded in all matters; beginning with: HEALTH, PENSION BENEFITS AND AMERICAN RIGHTS, no discrimination as ever been as strong as that given to the DEFENDERS AND PROTECTORS OF THIS ONCE GREAT NATION!
Money seems to be always the problem regarding these honorable and deserving groups followed strongly behind by all other poor and middle American Citizens. In the last 35 years, I've have yet to see any President, cabinet and reigning legislators think "America and it's well being." Elections around the corner, so nothing changes do we vote A or B? Let's pick the lesser of the two evils. This statement is justified by the following considerations: Billions are spent for campaigning, partying and unnecessary doings that would feed many, allow medical care to many dying and suffering, save homes and create jobs. The Government never takes responsibility for their actions: Wrong decisions are passed down to the multitude of those already doing without. No money for the right principals of life, but plenty of Money to bail out "PRIVATE FOR PROFIT INDUSTRIES: INSURANCE COMPANIES, BANKS, FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, AIR LINES, OIL COMPANIES." Breaks and taxes allowances are multiple for all the above mentioned except for the core of America, the People who put you there. I would be happy if in my life time Americans would have the guts to stand up and be counted and truly hold Government responsible on check and balances. Much money is spent for needless studies just to justify spending and creating cushy jobs for the chosen ones; while serious ones are decades overdue: The Environment, Fuel Dependency, balanced and fair medical care for all, job equality in all sectors of job rights and performance, education, pension earnings, taxation and so on. President John Kennedy once said: "It's not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country", well spoken words at that time that most of us were proud to follow; unfortunately after that it became obvious to many of us that it is time we DEMAND: "What will our Government do for us IMMEDIATELY!" MIlitary and Veterans, Wives, Children and Widows have been exploited, defrauded, lied to and rights violated while giving their lives in the name of America. Being left to suffer pain, financial disaster, alone and forgotten still has not sent a message to the so called Leaders..Will they finance themselves from here on and go to battle alone? Is it time for us to say: To each it's own and disregard Government existence while hanging a sign up: Out to Lunch Indefinitely?
We are tired of being used and abused, vote for whom? We do not take part in the process of picking candidates nor are asked about issues; rather we are told and brainwashed! If only we could market Common Sense for Government, wow we would then be really powerful in the world! This election I and my family are voting for Abraham Lincoln, no joke here at least in our history books he was still an idealist who tried to fight and institute balance in America, unfortunately we've not seen these type of men who were self made, self educated and not afraid of standing up for their convictions. We lack honesty, integrity, RESPECT for us and one another even in campaigning or representing the highest honor position in the Country: President of the United States! The World is watching and listening, but so are many of us! Wake up Government and start cleaning up this now poor, poor Country, not only financially but in performance, integrity, patriotism and honor. Learn to be Humble and ask the people of the United States.

"Senate passage of its defense bill with few amendments doesn't put at risk those amendments already adopted. The most important one for 57,000 military widows, voted last week, would eliminate an offset in survivor benefits for widow drawing VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation."

My question: does this in fact mean that this cruel and unfair widows tax will be eliminated, or is it just more election year posturing?

Posturing. On the 24th, the House passed the bill without the repeal of offset, AGAIN. I just can't understand STEALING from widows of veterans who have died from service related causes.
