RE: http://www.military.com/features/0,15240,173719,00.html we all become damn fools at least once in our lives. What I don't figure is how the u.s. goverment can be the big brother ******* that sanctions screwing the soldiers that defend our country, shores, and fights and dies for all of us. but you can think congress and the senate for doing this at least signing off on it. but you can bet they aren't hurting their retirements.in fact all they have to service in either house is two terms and they have a good retirement.

thats right senators get 15,000 a month for life with free med, dental and family coverage.and whats up with the civilians always wanting everyone to get out.youre looked upon as a freak of nature to want to stay intill 20 yrs or more.do these civilians who only see dollar signs for themselves actually think they can defend the country with their think tanks and studies.no its the kid who loves their country and slogs on despite the poor pay ( dfas is a civilian entity you know) that keeps our nation safe. Confused

This is just one more way for Uncle Sugar to get his hands in your back pocket. What makes this really a legalized crime is that the men and women who can LEAST afford it are the ones targeted by the system. I love my country, but I hate my government.

Well, here we go again. . . . The Government screwing the little man again. Its not enough that we go to war, for bad reasons in the case of the Iraqi war. Bush Jr. said Sadaam had Nuc's and had nothing, the only reason we were there was for revenge for his dad Bush Sr.
So, we go to war or send our children they get killed or loose limbs and for the government to screw all others with a 30,000 Bonus that will take from your retirement if you stay for 20 or 30 years. What a Great Country we live. . . .

The ones they should be screwing is the other countries, we go to war destroy the area and then build it back better that ever, and we do not take the country over. But we want them to have a demacray, and all those people know for thousands of years is kill or be killed. Again What a country we live in. . . . . . . . .

Who in the world is thinking these up these scams for the military? I opt for the same retirement plan and benefits that the unholyin Washington, D.C. 500 have.

We have have gone so long, doing so much, with so little, now we can do anything with nothing.

Maybe the good news is if the retiree will be affected by the USFSPA and ordered to give half their retirement to an ex then this is an EXCELLENT deal. A divorced Soldier would not have to share the thousands with the ex AND the ex would get less of a share of retirement. Seems like everyone on the good side wins.

I think that dang law (USFSPA) should be repealed so badly. Spouses get preferential treatment for EVERYTHING. Sure they have to move and can be a "single parent" some of the time. But most single parents I know don't get thousands of tax-free dollars for sitting at home with the kids. I don't like the government screwing the uninformed poor but that seems to be the trend. We already don't get due process in divorce court because of USFSPA. Just another way for the government to cater to civilians (spouses) and screw the military.

This absolutely on teh edge of being criminal. I retired in 1995 and entered into teh financial services world. If I gave advice like this I would be under indictment and put on trial. But we should not be surprised. In 1992 teh dep of teh army in an attempt to get mid-career officers to leave before full retirement vestment, offed an annuity worth 1/2 monthly pay for 2x the years served for those with servce less than 16 years. What they did not advertise was that if you had prior service as an EM you could stay until 20 and had to forfeit that right to take the annuity. Thankfully I had a mentor in MILPERCEN who kept me straight. The same insensitive leaders must still be serving. Let's take of our soldiers not abuse them.
