I am currently active duty navy, submarine force and I have many opinions about the way that military benefits should or should not be dealt with. It shoudn't really matter who gets the gi bill; as long as the service member pays into it and serves their time, he or she should have the option to give it to whomever they wish or use it whenever they want. As to previous comments on this matter, about being deployed or receiving medals etc...who cares! EVERYONE in the military service serves their time. Time away from family and friends. Time in secluded areas where anything can happen at any time. Whether it's marines or army in iraq, submariners on deployments, it doesn't matter. Every single service member who put money into the GI Bill should have say in how and where it's used. Some service members may not want to go to college. They may get all the training that they'll need while their in the service. They may stay in long enough that they won't need another career by the time they retire. But, many of us have spouses who could use the Bill for their education. We have to pay for that education just the same as we would our own, so why not be able to use our benefits for them, instead of having them wasted by us? As for "cushion jobs" such as recruiting, I am very happily going into recruiting at the end of this year. I can't wait to begine it, and it's not a way for me to stay out of the war. It's time that I will finally get to spend with my wife, to start our family. After nearly 3 years of marriage, this is the first time that I will be home MORE than I'm away. I understand that some people don't care about the family life, but many of us do. And it would be greatly appreciated if you would keep your unwelcome and rude opinions to yourself.

I served from May 1976 to Aug 1984. I don't understand why I should have to fight to get what I was promised when I signed up for the Army. I am on my third time applying for my ED Benefit, and they are trying to deny it again! I had to get grants and loans to pay for my college before my time ran out in 1994. Now I want what is owed to me, and PROMISED in a Contract! Are there anyone else out there having the same problems?

My husband served in the Army from 1991-1995 Active Duty and in the Reserves from 95-96. I have always thought that something needs to be done about the limitations on the GI Bill. This is $ they (you all) earned and rightly deserve and there should not be a cap on how long you can go before you use it. An honorable service was given to this country and this country needs to show some honor back by not making loopholes to get out of paying for their college. It is dishonorable to do such a thing to our soldiers. Is there anyone out there fighting to get this changed? I agree too on being able to use the Bill for whomever they want it should be up to the soldier.
