This recommendation is well deserved, but I don't think they will do anything. History has proven that we vets are not that appreciated in Washington, D.C.

That's what the VSO's are for. WE KNOW D.C. could really give a big zhit. Maybe we need another muster in D.C. like the WWI Veterans. There ain't no "Dugout Doug" to ride his Cavalry over us this time. But, getting Vets to really pull together is harder than Chinese Arithmetic.

Were are they going to get the money ? We are in hock to the Chinese but we can always borrow more. And by the way, thanks for your service. But we don't have the money. Nice.

Our politicians can approve millions to rebuild another country, millions on THEIR military, millions on AK-47's for Iraq that no one can account for. The list goes on and on.
When it comes to this nations Veterans, Disabled Veterans the politicians need justification upon justification. Yet the same politicians tell us that they support the troops. Well folks this is one more way that allows us to find out just who supports the troops.
I have no confidence in a timely decision, if there ever will be a decision, that will benefit the most important men and women in the world......the United States Military, that includes Veteran/Disabled Veterans. Semper Fidelis. Blackcoat.

Didn't the head of the Vet Bureau resign today? He seemed like a good guy who got tired of beating his head into the wall.

Give those who have sacrificed so much the monetary compensation, treatment and medical care that they deserve.

Eliminate government sponsored funding for the arts and use that money to help pay for it...

PRO ATHLETICS GET MORE RESPECT AND A HELL OF A LOT MORE COMPENSATION (MONEY) THEN THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO WEAR THE UNIFORM TO PROTECT THE LATTER. THERE IS SOMETHING SURELY WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY PRIORITES. AS SOMEONE ELSE STATED MAYBE IT IS TIME TO STAND TALL IN DC SO THAT THOSE WHO MAKE THE DESCISION ON WHO GETS WHAT CAN SEE THAT VETS HAVE HAD ENOUGH !

Both the House and the Senate developed Wounded Warrior Legislation that includes many of the provisions recommended in the Dole/Shalala and the VDBC reports. Both of these bills passed unanimously. The House and the Senate will soon conference these two bills and may roll in even more recommendations that both sides agree on.

I am optimistic there will be substantial fixes real soon. Stayed tuned to CSPAN for the VDBC testimony to the House on the 10th and to the Senate on the 17th.

I'm a disabled veteran, am unable to work because of my disability, but only receive $1171/month. This is clearly not enough to live on. Updating the rating schedule and allowing for concurrent receipt for all disabled veterans is simply the right thing to do.

If the "Government" can come up with 600 BILLION in five years to fight a war it can come up with a couple of billion to pay the Disabled Veterans who have fought all the wars!

I am with you. I only get 625 a month. Any one else living below or slightly above the poverty line of $865.00 a month? Lets hear it! Sound off!

I agree with the postings. These politicians
know that this will make good reading in the press, however, they also know how short memories are. I beleive that we will be in the
same situation ten years from now.Someone should tell them that this is the land of the
free because of the brave!

The only reason my family is not below the poverty line is because I work full time and am able to provide insurance for myself and my children. My husband is at 50% so he does not have medical for us. He also gets SSI. Between the two, he makes what most minium wage workers make at McDonalds and he is 55 yrs old! Whats worse is now I am having health problems but I cannot afford to work less hours nor can I afford to loose my insurance. Most of the married women that I know are able to work less hours or part time and their husband's job provides benefits. In addition, I have had to use most of my sick time attending to the needs of my husband and part of his PTSD therapy that we attend together. I have had to take time off with no pay at times to attend to my own medical issues. We have asked the VA for an increase, but we'll see how that goes. Meanwhile, I feel that I am forced to work more hours than my health allows. That is the affect that underpayment of disabled Vets has on their families. Families are forced to make unpleasant choices in order to survive.

Are you eligable for SSI or SSD? It may be worth looking into. If you get denied, appeal. Trust me, its an easier system that the VA.

This is great talk. Congress is too busy worrying about Rush Limbaugh to get anything done. If we wait for Congress to Act then we have wasted millions on these commissions that have been doing all this investigating. I challenge congress to act and pass some legislation on concurrent receipt for all Chapter 61 veterans, and the bills mentioned in this article. It is time for action. This is the 11th month of the year and so far the Democratic controlled congress has done as bad or worse than the Republican congress did. Time for action not talking.
