RE: http://www.military.com/features/0,15240,190049,00.html
This could work, maybe throw in a couple AF RC-135's and a Navy E-8, for good measure, which would enhance their training anyway, and you would have a 3D picture in real time of whats going on at anytime. Back in my day a RAVEN had about a 300 mile over the horizon look-see capability, God only knows what they have now, with the digital camera age. I know a couple of ole Ravens and Spooks who would love the job. In fact where have the J-Stars been hiding lately, just asking....... |

We’ve been monitoring them for years, and we ALREADY KNOW who the warlords/ringleaders/pirate bosses are, why not just take them out and be done with it?!

Yes, seeing and hearing is good. The radar operator on Dec 7th saw that. But the "Center" was unmanned and no acft were armed and on alert after the exercise terminated for breakfast and Sunday off...Pointless without "authorities deployed to interdict and prosecute or execute the "target". The World is a globe that turns and learns nothing from the League of Nations (in response to Halle Salasie)to TODAY.

I'd prefer 'Terry and the Pirates'. I'd imagined a bird geostationary over that part of the world since the tribesmen put the kibosh on the UN security detail. Maybe it wasn't that important. Who knew?

They don't need to be "monitored." They need to be killed.

Monitored eh!
How about the pirates tracked down and put out of commission and what if one of these ship based monitoring devices fall into the pirates hand, can it be terminated from space also? |

stillkit, while I'm in no position to lecture you, someone should. To defeat your enemy, you must know your enemy. Using satelite imaging to collect intel on their positions will help us take them out when we need to. Sure we've actually been doing stuff like this for years, and it's no surprise that you feel that way, but we can't take them out unless we follow the ROE. With this tech, we'll be able to see pirates coming from a thousand miles away. Only when they engage us, are we allowed to engage them. |

Please! Decades ago I heard military/NSA bragging that we could read license plates in parking lots with "spies in the sky." If true, what's the whining about now? "A million squares miles of sea." Oh sob. Our job is just beyond us. We need to study this and in 14 months apply important sounding military acronyms (U.S. Office of Global Maritime Situational Awareness -- USOGMSA -- say it sternly); that'll teach 'em!

Yea!!! And while we're at it, why don't we just kill all the guys we know that are bad in Afghanistan! That would win the war right away! What are we waiting for? |
