As we all saw(if we watched the new President's address yesterday) the very 1st topic President Obama addressed was VETERANS benefits and continued care.

The very 1st.

What is surprising is how many Veterans have NOT commented on this op-ed topic, yet.

President Obama's visit to Wounded Veterans at Walter Reed the day before his Inauguration was a good sign that he means what he says about Veterans...And his visit was not a Photo-Op. The Press was barred from covering the Private event. I visited the new WhiteHouse.gov sight after his Inauguration, and he does have a well thought out plan for Veteran's on the site.

This new Congress and the administration care about veterans. Right and I have a few "ponzi schemes" for you to invest in."

Wake up, the politicans will not cut any Social Security, Medicare payments etc. Barney Frank said before the election where the cuts were going to come from. I for one think this IAVA is a Democratic front group (I'm a Iraq veteran).

Its sad but veterans will take the cuts.

Talk is cheap. Demonstrate it through action that is productive and consistent. Until then, words are nothing but hot air.........and the reversal of several election promises he made indicate there will be plenty of hot air.

Well beasd on the FACTS (Voting Records) now that the Democrats are in charge life should start getting a lot better for veterans.

Thank GOD John (I only support veterans 20% of the time when I vote) McCain didn’t get elected to POTUS.

stewamart,

Good one! Further, selecting Gen. Eric Shinseki to head up the VA is a strong indication of where President Obama stands on veterans and their issues. Gen. Shinseki is not only a combat vet, but a disabled vet with a long history of standing up for "the troops".

Vets will always be a priority with Lip Service only. Amazing how much this country spends on Vet programs, employees for those programs, systems to help out Vets and what very little vets themselves get out of it. I spent 20 years active duty. The only thing I see is a check every month, other than that... ZILCH. No education, No medical, No Job priority (what a joke), no training to the civilian dumb ways of life...nothing. Millions of Vets Websites that look real nice though..what a joke.

After my retirement health insurance was cancelled in November 2008 I turned to VA, a friend from the old job site steered me. Pretty close at giving a try when on this site some brought up examples that benefits are negotiable almost every year and seems to be the first place they will cancel. Went for part D with Medicare and keep my fingers crossed. The Pres has influence, the Reps/Senate has the votes. Scary, huh.

PResident Obama has gone out of his way to show respect to the military and vets. Yes we know that many disagree with is policy on Iraq. and thats fair but the man does RESPECT the Military. And to hear A-hole disrespecting him by making allusions that his election means we are communist smacks in the face of logic. And to be frank COMRADE means your a jerk.

When he does something commie or socialist like PRESIDENT BUSH. Then whine..But until give him some credit. He respect us. far cry then other CINC I know.

As opposed to PResident Bush who always jerked us out of a higher raise then Congress proposed and dont even get me started on his opposition to the NEW GI Bill.

"Ohh he was being fiscally responsible"

SAVE IT!

That man spent tax payers money like it was going out of style and for him to find his Conservative backside in my wallet is a joke.

I just hope we can hold onto what we have now in the way of help and care... As far as improving things for Vets?? Hide and watch, I'll believe it when I see it.

Crackerjacks61 pretty much hits the nail on the head.

There is nothing new under the sun.

Veterans and Military families are a major priority of both the new President and the First Lady.

I haven't heard a "peep" from the White House or the Congress about veterans. What a joke, I for one am not hopeful about this set of legislators taking care of veterans. I hear more about Medicaid, homeless, labor issues, etc. I guess you have to take care of the people who brought you to the dance.

I'll believe any group of politicians truly support veterans when VA funding is part of the annual budget and not an "entitlement". When veteran's service organizations don't have to beg congress every year to take care of veterans...that will be change I can believe in!
