RE: http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,182557_2,00.html
Interesting article... I do wonder how much of what we hear from the current administration (or for that matter the Isreali's) has anything to do with reality. From what one of my friends tells me (who recently returned from an extended trip to Isreal) the Isreali government isn't any more likely to tell the truth or reveal the reality of a given situation than the Bush administration is, and the way they have treated the Palestinians over the years (and currently) is/has been horrible. OTOH Hamas is hardly an organization of choir boys. That said, the Bush administration has been largely "hands off" in the Isreali-Palestinian problem for the past 8 years, except to rubber-stamp everything Isreal has done (quite unlike the administration of GHW Bush, how made some effort to curb Isreali excesses), much to the detriment of the region. And, they have furthermore gone to a lot of trouble to see to it that the US will be in no position to be an honest broker for peace (or for that matter anything) in the middle east. President-elect Obama will certainly have his hands full coming up with a way to curb the Isreali's who while they share a number of common interests with the US, in a number of cases they do not. Since we are the only nation that has any real sway with Isreal ($3 USD a year in military aid alone), it is my hope that the president elect will be canny enough to start cleaning this mess up. The departure of the neo-con/anti-reality bunch from the White House should be a good start - and it would be no surprise that they Isreali's started this campaign before the new administration came to power as they wouldn't be as likely to support it. Unless of course, the current president is correct, and all will be peachy and there will be a signed peace agreement between both sides by the time he leaves office! |

Anyone that says this administration and the western powers have not paid attention to the middle east has been out of touch. Starting with a guy name Clinton. He gave full recognition of Palestine to become a State, with President Barak assuring that all of Gaza and 97% of the West Bank was offered for peace in the region. This Was refuse from the beginning. On top of this unprecedent effort,in Camp David, Arafat and his gang of thieves was planning the second intifada that has seen war, walls and continuation of diplomacy by just as many visits to Ramallah from the United States as to Tel Aviv.
The biggest difference was President Bush with the blessing of both sides of the aisle in Congress, discontinue cash payments to Arafat and transferred it into USAid or UN contibutions. Prior to the infatada western influence in manufacturing and infrastructure was at its highest in the autonomous West Bank and Gaza. The leaders of the Palestinian has continuous shot themselves in the foot while trying to pile up points with fellow extremist. To what ends? Driving all Israeli from the area. Never has happen, never will happen. |

I don't know why I waste my time reading Huber's rants.
So, Mr. Huber...As always, you've told us all the things what everyone had done wrong. Please "educate" us on what everyone should have done to gain your approval and the world's approval... I'll probably get your answer when there is peace in the Middle East... |

This is one of the few op eds Ive seen that speaks the truth about what is happening in Israel now. Where have we heard a voice from the Palestinians point? ...not in the US media! The Israelis ethnically cleansed what was Palestine at the point of a gun; put them in a walled concentration camp that is Gaza and are now slaughtering them like fish in a barrel (using our tax dollars.) The silence from our politicians, media , and yes, American Jews, is deafening. Don't think that the Israeli propaganda we hear here in the US is what the rest of the world hears in their media. I believe it is producing untold damage to our GWOT.

One side of that “wall” is the Egyptian border. Why don’t you ask the Egyptians why they don’t open that wall? Or do the bad Israeli Jews control Egypt as well? |

BS! I have heard members of Hamas on NPR three times now crying that they can’t control who is shooting rockets, or they don’t know who is shooting rockets, and that no one is shooting rockets. |

Huber said he was wishing for the US to be a light on the hill? The best he could get is a free porn show.
As for Americans, they've been fed a diet of BS for so long they've developed an allergy to truth. Jesus,(and his little brother Mohammed), wept! Keep it up Huber! America needs more sense. |

Fatah's shooting the rockets - they're the only ones who could smuggle the materials in. If they hit an Israeli it's an accident. Mossad doesn't want them too accurate. |

Ok, so it’s the Israelis shooting the rockets. That makes it clear now. |

The Jews control Fattah, Egypt and the United States. Watch out Canada, your next. Those Jews will have the First Nations people bombing your cities soon.

I think Jeff got it exactly right. We have might Israel the super power of the region and in doing so we created a monster who feels it can do whatever it wants to the Palestinians and it's neighbors. If we hadn't made it so powerful and given it permission to do whatever it wants, I don't think it waouls have begusn this brutal attack with is slaughtering so many women and children and non-combatant men. The world now hates us even more for supporting this carnage. They are throwing shoes at our embassy's all over the world. We must begin to support the oppressed, noat the oppressoor.

Actually, 'This Member' is from New York so English has very little to do with his spoken word. No disrepect intended. The 13.3 million Jews thoroughout the world on 4.3 of them resides in Israel. Over 8 million live in North America. I feel the ones I know would regard anyone messing with their cultural and business would be treated as an enemy no matter if they were from Tel Aviv. "http://www.simpletoremember.com/vitals/world-jewish-population.htm" Shoes thrown at our embassy is the next topic of business at the United Nations Security council. This is war! |

Israel is in the technical sense a failed entity. Their economy relies on the HEAVY American financial "grants" that far out pace those given to impoverished nations. Why does a relatively wealthy entity like israel need US Financial gifts year after year?
Sounds like we're keeping that entity afloat. This too me is a reckless waste of US Tax dollars that could be better spent on our southern neighbor, which actually provides a strategic advantage if it is safe and economically strong enough to keep their people out. Its just astounding how our relationship with israel is not discussed openly in the US.. |

Of course everybody is aware that about 22% of Israel is Arab Muslim/Christian, addition to that some are Ethiopian/African etc.
Jewish 76.4% Of this figure about 23% are American born so you might say we're sending our citizens a stimulus package. Did you realize that Puerto Rico has about 5 million American citizens that do not pay taxes to Washington D C. We're just a kind and generous nation. Did you ever figure out why we give so generously to the Arab countries, including the PA????? |

What the HELL does that have to do with anything? Why are you bringing up religion? 1.2trillion deficit, but we MUST keep giving away money to wealthy nations? Let the recession deepen, and people will demand it stops. Stop the outside aid to everyone, including Israel...this is where THIS American, and YOU differ. |
