This was bound to happen. With the economy tanking, folks will merely consider obtaining or keeping a job bonus enough, like as not. Wink

Reminds me of the way the big three auto makers run their companies. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Army started asking for a hand out bail out soon.

You can't have a bunch of Sergeants running around doing a Private's work. The Army needs new recruits.

I know that the green side of the Navy has cut back on bonuses as well but it is directly related to the recent recruiting.

There are Seabees coming off of active duty that have to find other rates to get into because of all the 20k bonuses that filled those rates.

....or could it be that with the civvie job market the way it is, there is no need to offer bonuses for recruits? Military pay is more secure at the moment. Problem is staying alive to get it, but that's the chance a soldier takes, 24/7.

It is not always about the money. Maybe it is about the BS and the PC that all these Senior E-9s, CW5 and commissioned Officers are dishing out. Maybe it could be that some people wearing the uniform are tired of taking orders from Civilians or women wearing maternity dresses. And maybe, just maybe some of our Infantry guys are tired of going to war and have to follow another countries Rules of engagement.

It's not congress that needs to understand.

Anyone who joins the Military should understand that before thay take the oath.

This is not the boy scouts. It's what we do.

I think it's probably good timing. With the economy the way it is, recruitment and retention both should be easier. The Army is a guaranteed pay check, and pretty good job security too. It's a tough life right now though. Hope they can maintain numbers without all the bonuses.

What's the matter, U. S. Army? Do you think that your soldiers should die for less money?

The US soldier is not a mercenary. He'll get paid 24/7 for wearing the uniform and doing a job he's trained to do. I suppose the AF does not offer enlistment bonuses or re-up bonuses?

If you join for the money, than you have joined for the wrong reasons.

..Or tired of seeing some reap rewards and benefits (including promotions) on things other than merit and performance. **** me off when I saw the Navy use the gender card to promote women in a particular rating just because there was few or no women in that rating or other reasons.

as long as the 11s and 18s keep their bonuses, i'll be happy. even if i don't end up branching infantry. i'm not here for the money.
i wish i could say that nobody joins for the money, but with bama 'pulling us out of iraq' a lot of people are going to join for college benefits alone.

You never know. Maybe this will weed out those who are joining for all the right reasons, and not just joining to pay their car off and buy new toys.
