Heck yeah. All of them should have served in the military. Left or right, it should be part of the qualifications to run for office.

Good to have a current point of view of the situation from hands on as opposed to just a view of the situation.

I can not agree more with you. They need to know what its like on the ground and not sitting in thier offices making decisions without experience. Bob |

I am a VietNam vet and I do believe anyone that runs for office in this good old USA, should have served in our ARMED FORCES. May GOD Bless all that have served our country. With Vetertan's Day coming up. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE SERVED & NOW SERVING. AK 1 James A. Brown, USN, Retired

It's very good news. Folks who have BTDT can bring some common sense to the table at decision time.

That`s good news -- we need more people in office that know what its like to put your life on the line and to speak up for veterans causes.

I'm sure we'll see more Iraq, Afgan vets getting into politics than VietVets, no one wanted VietVets in government at that time unless of course you came out against the war, then you was OK, John Kerry comes to mind. But personally I would like to see some ex-Noncom vets instead of only officers. Does everyone think that ex-Noncoms can't party too ?????

No one hates war more than those that have seen it's horrors up close and personal and have lost friends and brothers and sisters to it...
We need more vets, they will look for other "alternatives" first, the they will go in and fight, all out, to win the war... IMHO... Respectfully, SUNLINER81 |

Until we get Washington veteran occupied here's a suggestion, how many feel that all newly elected politicians to Congress and the WH that are not exVets should endure 8 long weeks of boot camp before going on to Washington?

Lumpkin is a SEAL. A Marine is a punk. Way to go with electing another brain dead jarhead, voters.
Navy owns the Corps, ya know. Used to have real Marines ride the boats, too. What the hell happened? A little crazy get loose? You guys got any assassin tanks squads left any more, or did you all get IED by some primative ingrates? Whatever, sorry to seem harsh. The best marine is a submarine and at least SEALs have a free ride with us still... |

Then the military could say they are not qualified to oversea military operations when sent to war, but they do without any military experience at all. They don't know chit. |

I can't agree. Not everyone is fit to serve in the military. Alot of people get disqualified.
There are hundreds of millions of citizens in America. Suppose the amount of people who've been honorably discharged, combat vet or not, is only 10% of the population. That means only 10% can run for office. You cannot exclude from qualification to run for office, 90% of the hundreds of millions of citizens in America. Its as unworkable as if you disenfranchised 60% of voters who would have voted for G.W. Bush had he been allowed to run, so that Obama can be elected. I agree with Sunliner about veterans making the right choices. Veterans have a work ethic I don't have the skills to describe. Vets have a larger stake in our democracy, as they fought for it. They respect procedure and they know the meaning of an honest day's work. Neverthless, there are plenty of people in America who don't have the fortitude to keep going when the going gets tough, or they lack other character traits, but they shouldn't be disqualified from office. Quote from Aristotle's book, The Politics: "Then ought the good to rule and have supreme power? But in that case everybody else, being excluded from power, will be dishonored. For the offices of a state are posts of honor; and if one set of men always hold them, the rest must be deprived of them". Another quote from Aristotle: " But there is a danger also in not letting them share, for a state in which many poor men are excluded from office will necessarily be full of enemies" Another quote: "for the many, of whom each individual is but an ordinary person, when they meet together may very likely be better than the few good, if regarded not individually but collectively, just as a feast to which many contribute is better than a dinner provided out of a single purse. For each individual among the many has a share of virtue and prudence, and when they meet together, they become in a manner one man....."
