RE: http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,174057,00.html
I was going to criticize Gaffney for submitting a used, 2nd hand op-ed to Military.com, but Huber has done the same thing. Could someone convince me the originals go to Military.com and the cut-n-paste copies go to the other websites? Regardless, the state of foreign affairs and misuse of our Military reached traggic-comic dementions some time ago... somewhere around 3rd tours of duty. Now we have Iraqi forces fighting Iraqi Sunnis who were part of that whole surge-Patreaus-counterinsurgency-success business? (Iraq Cracks Down On US-backed Sunnis) Sheesh! You can't tell the players even with a program. |

Once again this naval officer runs his mouth like an F-15 doing engine run up prior to take-off. Lots of hot air, lil substance, and no ideas for improvement. If he was promoted based on this and boring, he would lead the JCS!

Huber's stuff is so full of venom & hyperbole that it is just plain difficult to read. He portrays the smallest of errors as if they were catastophic blunders meanwhile playing down great successes. Guys like him cannot stand the success we have had in Iraq this past year and look for anything to try and paint success as failure.

4000 of our best killed; 30000 wounded; billions of $'s down the drain; our economy in shambles; our reputation in the world in tatters... you're right, the smallest of errors.

Getting around his obvious mockery of a number of sacred cattle, Huber has some suggestions for making things better. They have nothing to do with staying a failed course, ergo they are without value to those who will accept no substitute for victory. Too bad there are few suggestions for improvement from that camp, who contol the levers of power. So staying the failed course and hoping is as good as it's going to get. If you can outlast a heavyweight he'll get tired of hitting. Then it's your turn. There's always hoping for Saakhishvili 'ceasefire'. |

Poopsy, when you put on a uniform, any uniform, then you can knock the poster you just knocked, till then you are not even good enough to lick his boot soles!... He can call who he wants a troll anytime he wants, he has earned that privilege in armed combat, you on the other hand have done nothing but the "battle of McDonalds"... Not to denigrate his service, but I see nothing in SSG Duke's bio that indicates he was ever in "armed combat" as you say. He does have an EIB which is not equivalent to a CIB. Having served in Vietnam, I recognize that one can engage in armed combat and not be a CIB recipient. None of my several DD214s indicate that my service entitled me to call anyone a "troll". I don't think the Army has a MOS for Troll Hunters. |

10 DAYS SUSPENSION TOS 6 NEMESIS |
April 1988 Prep for movement to OP 3-6 in Sinai, Egypt. Late Oct 1990 Guard Post 128, the entrance to the DMZ! You are absolutely right about me not having a CIB! But have you ever been to the Korea DMZ where every once an while things happen there ie: 1984 or 1990! Or What about 1988 in the Sinai Peninsula where soldiers were getting hurt by road side bombs (we did not called them ied's but that what they were!). In Korea where I was station twice, the powers to be decided to not give CIBs anymore for they did not want to alarm civilians that soldiers still get hurt or even killed over there! Since NO PEACE AGREEMENT WAST EVER SIGN! A declaration of an War is still in place! Only a fragile Armistice has kept the two Korean countries from attacking each other! During the 1st Gulf War I was doing Recon and ambushes patrols inside the Korea DMZ for roughly 92 days. We did not get Combat pay or even Hazard pay and those patrols are very very real combat environment just like those that were going on in the 1st Gulf War. North Koreans have time for time sent probing patrols inside our side of the DMZ and we caught them sometimes but we have to follow rules of engagements and by that time they would head back North to there border. You see inside the DMZ their is NO BORDER FENCE! Only few yellow border signs are up to let us know the border! Now for my little six months tour in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt and the border of Israel in 1989. I was under Multi Force and Observers which a dozen Countries keep the peace between Egypt and Israel. Over there we had OPs setup to observe any infractions on the Peace agreement that was sign by Israel and Egypt. We also do foot and vehicle patrols in areas that are dangerous from leftovers of mines and ordinates from past Middle East Wars! Not only that but we have to watch out for PLO and others terrorist groups! We had a couple of roadside bombs go off on some of our soldiers! Just in our company alone we had over 6 soldiers wounded by these bombs. One soldier, a lieutenant lost a foot from these roadside bombs. And since this was a so called peace mission we did not get CIBs, combat pay, or even hazard pay. The soldiers who did get wounded did get the Purple Heart. You see you do not have to have CIB to prove you have been in a combat situation.... This message has been edited. Last edited by: SSGDuke53, |
