How about OUTRAGEOUS. Congress (Yes this means the Democrats not Bush, for once) needs to get off their collective A$$e$ and secure the troops pay. quote: Originally posted by mocitytx: Laughable

Brings to memory the previous Democrat threats/attempts to impede and force the "end" of the GWoT by denial of funding. Equally outrageous (laughable doesn't even describe...) is the possibilty that ONLY the pay to the troops is being held up and nothing else.
We'll see how dire this is allowed to become...

Why on earth should they be short in the pay accounts, for pity's sake? All military pay [not just the Army's] got covered in the regular Defense Appropriations Bill, with the possible exception of activated Guard and Reserve troops, and hazardous duty pay ... they shouldn't be running that short anywhere close to so soon.

What does this quote from the article mean? quote: Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said Tuesday that if Congress does not pass the $1.8 billion Global War on Terror (GWOT) supplemental, the U.S. Army will be unable to pay troops in mid-June and may be forced to make a reprogramming request that would borrow from Navy and Air Force payroll funds.
It means that the administration has been been barrowing funds from the normal military appropriations without Congressional feedback or approval. You know, lying, violating the Constitution... And of course blaming the opposition! How creative! Dave

The GWOT is a threat to all freedom loving people..and I think OPEC is just as threatening as the Terrorist...maybe more so...putting the world in economic turmoil. Democrats wake up....what are you thinking.??
Democrats wake up??? Who has been supporting the oil producers worldwide. Who's family does business with the Saudis? And, in fact, the Bin Laden family?

Perhaps, abysmal "deliberate" planning would be a more appropriate term. Military pay is a part of the normal military appropriations. The administration is now putting the opposition party on the spot, "either vote for our supplemental appropriation, or we will announce that you're against paying our men and woman in the military." Neat! Dave

This is great! My EAOS in less than a year... and if the Army borrowing money from the Navy's payroll funds mean that my pay is somehow affected by this... this could mean that people from ALL services could be walking!
Man, I tell you what - with gas prices, now this, among other things - has this country ever been in worse shape?

Unfortunately, yes.

Doesn't surprise me in the least that the Army is out of money. what does surprise me is they may try to borrow from the Air Force, historically the most fiscally irresponsible of all the armed forces. The Army is the next most irresponsible and has been since WWII

All patroll funds are on deposit with the Treasury Dept. Gates is log-rolling the issue. As per the Bush script blame anyone for anything, but at all costs absolve the administration. When the outcome is undesireable from the Bush-babies' perspective, invent an artificial catastrophy. If Congress is as smart as they should be (to have gotten elected in the first place), they will call the bluff and not pass the supplemental appropriation. No funds for Iraq. No funds for "GWOT", another figment of their imagination. Terrorism is criminal behavior; treat it as such. They are criminals; don't elevate their status above common criminal. This is Bush business as usual and needs to be met as a bluff and an outright lie.
