Believe me, I'm not trying to slam my brother marines cause I have quite a few that are very good friends of mine and I worked with them on my first tour in Okinawa but, is it a fasination thing with marines/japanese women or what?? Cause you never her of this type of thing happening anywhere else. Or.. is it just sensationalism by the press??
Yea, kind of figured that. Trying to make a big issue over us in Japan so any thing is printed. If it happens here, no problem. But, in Japan... let's blow it up!! So much for the press.
Why did she agree to go outside and have consensual sex in the first place, a working girl perhaps. Maybe she got more than the barginned for, did not get paid for the service she provided? Who knows. But, unless I was doing some skip reading, I did not see where that issue was addressed in the article.
She got more then she bargained for. They should have given her more money. Bottom line. Japanese women like American Boy-sans, but they like to be paid for thier services too. This is what happens when you don't pay for what you get.
Being a Marine for over 21 years, and having served in Japan, as well as other places, and having been a cop for over 5 years, I would just like to say that the discussion here is pathetic.
Knowing quite a few female bar owners and also knowing some bar girls, they are there to make drinks, which is how they make money. In Japan and Korea, women who serve as bar girls are often confused for prostitutes, something that that while many participate in, is not true for all of them. I met a very nice girl in Korea, who worked in a bar, but she was anything but a prostitute. She was a nursing student and it was easy money.
Regardless, it is not about not paying her enough or not, it is about RAPE. And no matter where it takes place it is wrong. In the United States it is so common place, that it is rarely reported. If you knew Japanese or Korean or any of the other countries you visit, you would know that in Japan and Korea, ALL rapes get big news.
It is NOT too bad for the Marines who committed the rape. When I was in Japan in 1975, we ran across someone who was raping a GIRL (high school student) and the Marine who was committing the crime ran into a bunch of pissed off Marines who don't tolerate RAPE or any other crime. Not sure what happened to him, but I know he suffered some broken ribs and other things while in his drunken stupor...my story and I am sticking with it.
If any of you have daughters, then think what you would feel like if someone said your daughter was taken by 4 men cause she is a whore cause YOU let her dress seductively and as a result she is just asking for it...and the only reason that she is complaining is because I didn't give her 25 cents instead of the 10 cents that whores are worth.
Get real. Sure it is bad that Marines or any other servicemen are put in the news for these kinds of crimes, but then there is just no accounting for stupid, as is evident by the people making the flagrantly stupid remarks about how oriental women deserve to be raped.
Even IF (and that's a capital IF) she is a "working girl" it doesn't mean she's free game and it still is rape, whether money was involved or not. And as to why she would go and have sex with one of them in the first place? Funny the GUY never gets asked that. Maybe she was really attracted to him. Happens all over the world, every day and night. Does that make her a whore? Only if I get to call the male participant a whore as well!
Just read where he got 2 years. He really jacked himself but still got off easy, IMHO. Still, I don't like the way the press sensationalizes GIs overseas and the same thing happens here and is hardly noticed as someone stated earlier. A crime is a crime and shoud be reported the same.

They were in the wrong place at the wrong time and they deserve whatever they get...Gunnery Sergeants are supposed to lead by example...and this is not the way to go...
This incident is digusting. The difference between this and crimes here in the states is that we are there under a SOFA agreement, and therefore, the damage this does to our diplomatic standing, and the Japanese perception of us is immeasurable. Remember, to them, we are foreign troops garrisoned in their country, and committing rape and other crimes.
I am a retired Marine Msgt.and have seen this situation come up before. However, if this young lady left to be with this young Marine as indicated, she left herself open for what happened. I don't condon what happened, but that is how things are going now because of the loss of true leadership and rapid promotion of troops
Im REALLY awaiting MarineAunties opinion on this,......however, in my humble opinion,...having been an Iwakuni Marine,(among other foreign countries )I find it difficult to believe that at least two career Marines , ( the GySgts ,...and PERHAPS the Sgt) would risk their careers for that.
My experience tells me that it was a Barhook, or some meek little Japanese girl who did not know what she was in for when she "pulled that train".
