It is a crime to do what we do to our "Terp's". My platoon interpreter Rich, (Not his real name because he would be killed if some on found out he was working for us) has been our most valuable asset, I have told my guys to protect him with there lives, He is a member our unit in almost every way, He suffers thou the same hot summers with almost the same 60 pounds of equipment as us he has been in our patrols when we are hit, and gives us a read on whats going on in Baghdad that we cold never get from an American interpreter, to hold these people back from getting there shot at the American Dream is not only unjust but Un-American. It is my intention to go to DC in June and give Rich's emigration information to my Senator and ask him to help, anything less would be a disservice to all the effort to Rich.
Lets not leave people (Iraqis) who have helped us post occupation. Their lives are in peril if someone finds out that they worked for us....its called "honor killing". The person's own family would be compelled to do the deed.Think I'm kidding? Read an account of such a slaying in the book "the Assasssin's Gate" by George Packer.
