I'm still up in the air on this. It would be nice to have some in reserve imho. |

Yeah. I was recently made aware of how difficult it is to transport military hardware overseas.

Down size, upgrade, down size, upgrade...First new equipment will be coming, then it won't. We need alot of this...oh, I guess we don't need as many. I know one thing...when I go over there, I sure hope I get one of these! They are a nice piece of equipment, but very expensive, in comparison to the up armor vehical we are currently using.

Since when did contractors listen to the pentagon? All they have to do is get their "buddies" on the inside to "order" someone to reacquisition the vehicles. If that doesn't work then the threat of breach of contract will scare them into paying for them even if we don't need them. Such nonsense well after the fact is slowly bleeding our country from the inside.
Wow, maybe that was the goal of the terrorists from the beginning..... Of all escape mechanisms, Death is the most efficient. ~~ H.L. Mencken |

Yes, by all mneans, send them the equipment. It is apparently the best we have, but a poor excuse for what the service needs. Leave it to the military to not specify that the equipment needs to operate off-road, actually make turns and operate in confined spaces, is unwieldy. can't cross bridges (what's that all about?). My son's unit, operating with Hum Vees, but mostly on dismount, were expecting these MRAPs, but apparently now they are not going to show up. Sounds like a usual Cluster F__k. He was in Stykers on his first deployment, which in retrospect appear to have been a world class fighting machine. So, why not modify a proven vehicle with the V-hull and put them in the field, could probably retrofit in the field and get them operational faster. But let's not quibble, if the MRAP is what we've got; then get them out in the field where they can do some good; and provide an extra level of protection for our guys. How many? Ask the field commanders, give them some credit; forget about the pentagon PhD civilian estimators. With all due respect to the good general, our guys are warriors, not statesmen or social workers. You want to win the hearts and minds of these people? Send over these whining State Dept weenies that pissed in their pants when they were asked to go. Seems that "touchy feely" is more in line with their job description than our warriors. Sorry, just another layer of disgust! Jareddad |

10 day suspension for CiC bashing. 30 Jan 08 dmuhler |
Are Army Generals just plain stupid? Keep the production line moving and order more. The AF doesn't need all those Raptors, or the new bomber, or the new tanker. The Army's done all the heavy lifting and need to replace the Humvee p.o.s.

When is the American public going to get so fed up with the
gross negligence, waste, graft & corruption regarding the DoD's procurement/contract system that they DEMAND a complete overhaul to avoid similar bouts of insanity ? BREATH NOT HELD ! |

They could have used every one ordered if they had been provided three years ago when the troops wanted them. By dragging their feet the suits outwaited the need. Too bad countless troops had to pay with their limbs and lives.

How much does a Stryker cost as opposed to one of these MRAP jobs??? Seems to me we are trying to reinvent the wheel..
Being former Navy you do have to give me a little slack on the "Gravel crushers |

MILITARY LEGISLATIVE SUBSTANTIVE OF ACT FY2008 NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION, THE AIRFORCE GENERAL DISCUSSION.[ DECREED END ON THE DESOLATOR. Dan.9:7].
DEARLY beloved, FellowCommanders, Officers of the Divisions and Joint Chiefs of Staffs, For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have. With all effectiveness, I tender to pass this Legislation for the decree of our National Defense guide. I persuade men unto all riches of the understanding, to the acknowledgement of the responsibility for National Defense Authorization reliability. As we're very aware of, the Airforce and its sister services have been heavily engaged in the Global War on Terrorism for almost six years and has yet to return home. Because of the increased worldwide operation tempo, It shall come one who makes desolate with his distruction decreed, "Untill the decreed end is poured out on the desolator." Undergo the amendment propose by House Representatives, that, Defense Policy hopes to pass before Year ends. [House and Senate Lawmakers on Dec. 6 agreed on a Pentagon Policy bill that would authorize $696 billion in defense spending, including $189 billion for the Wars in Iraq and Afganistan.] I will also remind to pursue a good degree and great boldness, to be honoured, as am a Doctor of Philosophy in taken responsibility for the welbeing of the United States Citizens. [It is written ] Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power. In the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning, Thou has the dew of thy youth. [Psalm 110:3] Now the Administration and the United Stetes Congress of their constitution responsibility to provide adequate resources for the common defense of our Nation. Best regards, I' m Lord Akwasibanahene. |

Strykers held up very well when the first SBCTs were deployed. However, as enemy's learned to defeat them, Stryker's survivability quickly decreased. The Stryker is a light armored vehicle and was never designed to be able to take the kind of punishment seen recently. It did well for a time, but MRAP fits the bill as a "mine resistant" vehicle which was designed for EOD and route clearance. |
