I am really glad that our forces are going to have these vehivles finally available. I just hope some liberal pencil pushers don't start scrapping the future for them.
I recently had the opportunity to take a tour of the Force Protection factory in Ladson, SC. It was part of a week-long block of training to familiarize me with my Cougar 6x6 that I'll be driving once I deploy in a few months. I've never had the warm fuzzies for a piece of military equipment (well, besides the team Barrett) like this. It's an outstanding vehicle, and many EOD techs owe their lives to this truck. I hope that the government will keep up the good work in protecting its' soldiers, EOD or not.
Is this another of the govt way of brain washing in which they are very good. Diversity is hogwash, M RAP what a travisty to name the vehicle after all that is wrong with this country. Instead of our national athem we should have a RAP song played, when we feel like honoring the Military... Diversity also in the place of Taps... Old corp USMC Ret
IM a subcontractor for an MRAP vehicle maker. Im glad that our soldiers have these machines rather than the Humvees.
the number of MRAP trucks being produced is just a drop in the bucket right now compared to next month and December when the program hits its full stride.
I feel the money is alot but worth every penny until the Forces come home.
FPI says they built more than 100 trucks in August, and looks to double production with 2 more plants building Cougars. IMG builds more than 100 in a week. they will be building 500 or more by the end of December and probably close to 600 in early 2008.
with the new orders of 6500 to be awarded in December pending Congress approval, it seems the program will be running at least through May, 2008.
hopefully the new FTTS program of light trucks to replace the Humvee will start soon as well. this will help in areas where a smaller vehicle is needed.
I have a son who will hopefully be receiving MRAPs for his unit south of Baghdad soon, enough for the troop convoys into sector instead of just the ones they have now for EOD and route clearance. I hope the ones his unit receives are as reliable and safe as the already-proven Cougars made by Force Protection. Good luck 89Dgirl, and thank you for your service. I am glad you will be in a Cougar!

Just my two cents..... Helen

Sergeant, if you like it and are going to use it...good enough for me. Compliments, Sergeant Major

The FTTS is a FUTURE TACTICAL VEHICLE> IT IS A HYBRID TEST BED. Waste of time and money. something like 30 million wasted so far.
The JLTV. TWO years running plus. Wont see this one for a while. If at all? They are gonna try to make this the F-16 of trucks. Price wise too. (end result) More HUMVEES. Great for GM/ AM General. / Armour holdings co.

Doesn't seem to me that it was "liberal pencil pushers" that caused the delays in getting them fielded, unless my reports on who is running the procurement branch are much mistaken.

You do know that "MRAP" means "Mine-Resistant/Ambush Protection" and has nothing to do with "Rap" music? I mean, you do know this, right? You're being sarcastic, right?
Of course, the title does have the word "Diversity" in it, which to many people means "Oh, no, evil 'Liberals' are going to force me to have gay sex with a homeless black dude so they feel better about themselves!"
For the love of God, adjust your hat. The tinfoil is too tight!

This is the Bush administration. All of the "pencil pushers" are republican. If this program gets scrapped, it won't be the democrats that do it. By the way, was it the "liberals" in congress that delayed fielding of adaquate body armor or up-armored HMMRs? Let's try not to rewrite history already.
For A bunch of people who want to be respected and regarded as business smart the Pentagon and Congress really screwed this one. The “Diversity” of 3 different models for each of the 3 different vehicles is really dumb.
They should have done a test out in combat and let the troops prove the best vehicle and then drove production that way. Instead we now have a logistical nightmare and our support folks will be pulling their hair out trying to support the combat guys.
Just wait, in the next 6-9 months we will be hearing about how screwed up the “system” is because we will have vehicles out in the forward areas that are sitting as “hanger queens” because we don’t have the parts and support to fix them. With so many different models we will have parts in bins in one place for vehicles in another, we have done this before and we still haven’t learned a thing. I will bet the log guys are still screaming and the pencil pushers are still telling them to STFU.

Good luck ma'am. Straight from the soldier's mouth is good enough for me!
