It does not matter where you are politically on this war - for or against - what matters is that this country needs to recognize and treat the injuries our brave service people have suffered and honor the compact we made with them that should they be injured they would be cared for.
It comes down to availability and rationing within the VA healthcare system. I agree that vets should receive the best healthcare that this country has to offer, however, it should also be noted that if our government moves to a universal healthcare system, this will be the same dilemna faced by all Americans, even those that can afford the best healthcare we have now.
As a disabled vet, eventhough retired, I have used the VA healthcare system, but prefer to use the healthcare plan I pay for.

We are not talking about a VA facility, right. Walter Reed is an Army Post. I am alive only for the VA system. I am treated with respect and kindness. After multiple operations I am living my life thanking God and country for the VA. Most of my Doctors are learning their trade. They answer to the best in their field. Love of Corps and country, stop Jihad
The guys I wonder about, are the guys I see sleeping just outside the fence, between the freeway and the fence in the trees, at the West Los Angeles V.A.. For what ever reason, they can't get into the domiciliary, so they sleep on cardboard and under tarps in the cold and the rain. These guys used to be like we were, when we were young. We were proud and strong, fighting for our country, wanted by the military and society and now... Don't none of you call me a liberal, because anyone who knows me knows that I'm so conservative, I make Newt Gingrich look like Jane Fonda... Respectfully, SUNLINER81
Just follow President George Bush's budget and policy recommendations, Stay the course!! VA problems are NOT his fault, just like Iraq and Afghanistan. His administration has proven itself the greatest friend of veterans, he can't help it that his budgets have billions upon billions short since the end of major combat operations. There was no way anyone could have imagined that Iran would be arming the Shia, Sunni, Taliban and MEK insurgents and cause the problems VA has had.

It's always bothered me to see homeless veterans. It seems as though someone who's served their country should be taken care of properly. Something should be done
Amen about our homeless veterans, bur some of them choose to be that way. Others just don't understand what they can do.
Just last month, believe it or not in all places, the SF bay area the veterans association put up a "free day in the park," where homeless veterans came for help and sanctuary. 200+ showed up for examinations, evaluations and a safe place to stay over a weekend. Hopefully more places will do this to help.

yea, but at least on this issue, you're a conservative with your eyes open. We need to make sure that the folks coming home don't end up on the streets. Nine percent of the population in the US are veterans...25% of the homeless are veterans. Our failure as a nation to provide appropriate treatment at the time...not theirs.
