How cool is that. last year we used to go in and out of ramadi and it was a bad place, glad to see they are cleaning it up.

now ramadi soon baghdad the rest of iraq

why don't we see these stories on the evening news? it doesn't fit into the media's agenda or the dems political scheme...

Real Politics at it's finest. We did this the old fashioned way, by working with and supporting the Sunni tribal leaders instead of fighting them. Funny how backdoor diplomacy works.

Thanks for the update on Ramadi. I had a great time there this year and miss all the friends I made.

I was smack in the middle of Ramadi for 9 months after we convoyed down from Sinjar(after we had just gotten settled in after being there for 5 months), to replace 1-506th at Combat Outpost Corregidor. Which was a particularly nasty place all of 06. I am glad it has gotten alot better. I remember the glass factory which they speak about in that article that used to be an insurgent sniper nest(definetly wouldnt be doing any 5k run near it) I videotaped the Ramadi trainstation getting blown the hell up by the 1-506th sappers(it had an old saddam hussein bunker under it insurgents used) Also i do believe everyone in Corregidor got their share of close calls,one of mine happened to be when that VBIED hit OP HOTEL... i had just left with the psyop guys, to head back to the COP 10 min before it hit....That was the most memorable and terrible experience i had while in Ramadi the mass casaulty that followed that explosion was numbing. Lots of black bags

You get school kids running the race again and it would be on the news. Iraqi Police aren't quite the same draw.

Then there's the other kind of racing still getting done in Ramadi. And it would screw up any fun run.
