RE: http://www.military.com/features/0,15240,147737,00.html
Sadr will say any attacks made by his people are from break-away, rogue elements of his "army". He should be taken out. |

So he said it, if it happens good, if not, well you were prepared for it to begin with.

If it means a few less attacks and a few lives saved, well that has to be good news. This is one guy that needs to be involved in whatever negotiations eventually begin to try to settle Iraq's future. He's too important to ignore if we're really going to try to evolve a political solution. And "taking him out" won't solve the problem--there'll just be somebody else to take his place.

Six months to reorganize and re-arm?
How is this a good thing for the US troops? |

Anyone that believes Al-Sadr is a fool. Muslems have waited for centuries to achieve their goals what is six months? Just time to reorganise, reequipt and for the US to start drawing down. He is a pupet of the Iatola and is doing what he is told.

Mere analysis of fragment elements within Al sadrs militias is rubbish. Could someone tell the American marines to read the Arts of War over and over again.

Al-Sadr has his own plan. It dates back to the 5th century AD and created the dark ages in Europe. The plan hasn't changed it is the prolification of Muslems over the Infadel. Time and the art of warefare shed no light on their objectives.

Morning Dale--I'd get alittle cream on that cold sore . . .They generally get worse before they get better. I suspect that this guy just might be important to any future political settlement . . . We will probably have to sit across the table and deal with him at some point down the road fairly soon. Maybe if we started to try to deal with him now, he might help settle things down alittle.

The enemy is reorganizing...It sounds like an opportune time for an offensive before this group is re-upped with new Iranian equipment and personnel.

Once again it sounds like basic "Logistics" might be dictating his motives.
Bullets cost money and have to be transported, same as IED matterial and mortar rounds. Think he might be saving up for the "Big" show if the US starts withdrawing troops in 2008? Think about, why wittle your Army down on a objective that might be pulled out in 6-9 months, when your "real" battle will begin once those forces are gone? There will be a large power struggle, and with Iraq's history it is always with weapons, not thru a politcal venue. |

Isn't there still a warrant out for his arrest?

Probably. There are warrants out for lots of folks, but you've got to catch 'em first. |

Exactly what I was thinking. We should move in on him with an organized offensive consisting mainly of Iraqi troops with our support where we target only him and his operatives if possible. If we have his current location, we should take him out now before he regroups with more weapons and supplies. Sounds easy enough, but I am sure there are many complications that lay in between, |

We had him zero'd seven times by Delta in 2003 but they were not given the clearance to shoot. Instead, Gen. Sanchez sent in the 5th SF Group to Hollywood the operations and lost him all seven times because it took them six to ten hours to prep up and move. Of course that didn't set well with many and a crap storm brewed within CJTF-7 dumping on 5th Corps. Delta has been stifeled at every turn with the exception of a few times so we can keep them secret, or so the story is told. Al-Sadr is very lucky a Delta operator didn't have a fat trigger finger or he would be with his 72 fat, skanky, smelly virgins Politics in war seems like going to the pool to drown yourself....it makes no sense! |

"The check is in the mail."
"I did not have sex with that woman!" "I promise to represent my constituent's will." "we will no longer attack American and Iraqi forces." I'm convinced! |

I wouldn't beLIEve anything Sadr had to say. Same goes for the rest of the Iraqi government. Hell, same thing goes most Iraqi's. Smile and wave at you in the morning, launch rockets and mortars at you at night.
