The generals are speaking out: is it spin or something significant ?

Sorry to say but my trust of Government is greatly diminished by events of the past six years. This mistrust has been verified again and again and seems to be rampant among people aware of current events.

A book I recommend is ARE WE ROME ? by Cullen Murphy.

The general was just showing a little spontaneity. Insurgents won't be able to specifically target the MRAP. Further, it is more likely that they would choose a more vulnerable vehicle to blow up, if they had the ability to choose.

It is interesting to note all the publicity directed at this vehicle. It is defensive in nature; not a "fighting vehicle nor all-terrain, like a Bradley or a new M113.

The past 6 years is the biggest joke of OPSEC. Have you seen how many foreign nationals are working on LSA Anaconda? How about the rest of the war zone? Oh yeah, how about the general having a BIG meeting about the war...Hey why dont we just tell the world all our weakness's and how many troops we have in Iraq? OPSEC...

member Helez I will look up book, Are we Rome, by Cullen Murphy, it sounds interesting. Time is short and in my opinion it seems we may all may need a speed reading class, for our Republic seems to be sinking faster than a Titanic. To save time some may post reference info. then a particular page number. For i.e., I read in the book Design For Survival by General Thomas S. Power a reference that he made on our banking and the Soviet problem. That day I had little time and thought I book marked it but at the moment cannot find. Maybe effects from highlights on my hair over the years who knows! But it takes time for I would have to re-read all over to find it, my bad. Anyway, the point which is very Relevant today more than Gen. Power may have thought for at that time banks were not as predatory as today, is in that the soviet problem was greatly influenced in that they knew our banking system was flawed since based on inflationary directives. So, that we had no real chace of being economically sound and always out on the prowl so to speak to re-resource our wealth. So, we are circulating debt and not wealth but they knew this more than our own citizenry for our "Politicos" have non-disclosure to our public about our true banking history, (semi-public/semi-private of international bankers, yet our Constitution clearly says that We-US and Our Congress should coin our own money for not our children will wake-up broke and homeless in the Nation their Fathers conquered. If we had sound money we would not be in "Iraquia". We are in a vicious cycle in which instead of Nations we will have banks with centralized government running the world. Not a good thing if you ask me for it will lead to super controlled Biometric society to protect the centralized elite running the system. I best go get a cup of tea. What I do not appreciate is the lives, pain and suffering that this has on our troops, families and society as a whole. Are we Rome? I have not read but could guess, yes We are.

While in general agreement with the point that the entire MRAP program won't be going into any futire textbooks, at least as an example of success, the Brigadier General has a point ... if we oversell the capabilities to these vehicles, and raise expectations about them too high, they will be specifically targeted by a media-savvy enemy anxious to discourage our efforts.

While I don't put as high a value on those media efforts as some people here do, it is folly to ignore them completely. Cool

12613916 I believe you will find the book, Are we Rome, by Cullen Murphy, interesting. Time is short for our Republic; which seems to be aging much the same as Rome. I think that the Bush Presidency has been a start warning the the United States Government has crossed the line to being an Imperial Presidency. Nixon tried it, but was stopped. As you mentioned, this Presidency is to protect the elite. Diminished to near extintion is government which protects all society.

AGBrina,

I hear ya, and would like to note, the soft wheels for soft ancient streets of the Capital and other big cities. Why use (behind the front) vehicles to assault with ?? Col. Rooney speaks of save`n thousands of lives with it,....Is he planning a spearhead, or parade ?? I would not bring that vehicle within range of enemy Howitzers or on roads that can be taken out from under it !! Soooo.... What`s the big hype ??

Soooo true, Goondawg. The US has lost it's industrial capacity as well as it's WILL to do what it takes to WIN!!! Guess it'll take something bigger than 9/11 to wake us up. Unfortunate, but "divided we fall".

LOVE POGO and Walt Kelly (God Bless Him). They helped me understand the Viet Nam War, fight it, and retain my sense of humor. The nearest we have today is DOONESBURY but it will never gain the classic stature of POGO. Smile

I guess this generation never heard the phrase, "Loose lips, sink ships." Let the enemy find out on their own what we have in store for them..... Stop telling them everything and posting it on Wikipedia....

Negative. Aberdeen Proving Grounds is in Maryland. They have an extensive artillery museum that includes one of the purpose built "Atomic Annie" nuclear howitzers from the '50s as well as captured German rail guns. There is probably an example of just about every artillery piece our military has used since pre WWII. Unfortunately, they are on outside display so they have fallen victim to the elements. This is particularly sad concerning the captured German artillery and tanks.

Freedom of Speech-
There are some very interesting points in the movie presentation of ZEITGEIST, the most important part is the hour towards the end if your time is short. Its important for us to have Dialogue so as to come up with solutions to help the soldiers. Here it is, the religion part just shows some zodiaz influence on religion is all but you may fast forward it a bit if short of time. Last part of this movie is the one most relevant to educate ourselves-Freedom of speech while we still have it available-Open your eyes-Pop Corn-lights Hot movie 4 U

I agree with WCrid, what has happened to the element of surprise? Oh ya, the media has a big mouth and then they have the nerve to count how many soldiers are dying over there as if their big mouths have nothing to do with it. You give away our military secrets and then wonder why the enemy is more prepared to attack us than we thought. Thank God that my son made it home safe.
