Our nation does not deserve war leader such as George Bush. He is compassionate and one of the few in our government that really has a vision of what our nation is confronting. Every last man, woman, and child in our country owes him their trust, support and gratitude. I salute our Commander and Chief......
We have have gone so long, doing so much, with so little, now we can do anything with nothing. |

You could have stopped after the following:

Are you saying you met him?
Nearly everyone who has seems to come away with the same sentiment. I've heard he's completly different in settings other than press conferences ,etc. |

Our Great Nation HAS BEEN BLESSED with 43 Great Presidents.
I happen to believe President Bush IS ONE OF THE Greatest! But, even the ones that "didn't lead to my expectations deserve my RESPECT; and, they will have it. It's a DAMM SHAME; that so many U.S. Citizens resort to CONSTANT CHARACTER ASSASSINATION RHETORIC of the Great Leaders who were instrumental in building the Greatness of our Nation. Mr. Bush quietly visits the wounded vets at Walter Reed. There is no publicity. For this I honor him.

I agree, WesLemmon, every president (even those we dislike) should be given the respect of the office they hold. And usmc_family, I agree as well with you. I know soldiers who have been visited while at Walter Reed, and they have the utmost regard for our president for the regard he shows to each of them.

On a personal level, I have no doubt that Mr. Bush - and all other presidents - has a great deal of respect for the military. His private visits to WRAMC, Bethesda and other MTFs support that.
However, his EXECUTIVE actions - lack of support for Congressional action to improve the lot of those serving, retired, wounded and in veteran status say something VERY different. He is one thing in person, but a very different political being when it counts. A presidential handshake and attaboy will NOT support the family after discharge, improve the armaments for those serving or protect the long-promised retirement benefits being steadily eroded. |

President Bush was great his first term. He has been going down hill ever since.

I don't know Bush. He travels in much higher circles than I. But I believe he assumed the presidency in very difficult times and made the best choices he could with poor options and information that was ambiguous at best. I don't agree with all his policies, or how they are executed, but I believe he feels fully the burden of the 300 million souls affected by his decisions, and for that he has my prayers and support, as will the next POTUS, regardless of who he or she might be.

If the praise given here is really true of our "glorious leader", then that is news to me. |

While I have never met the man, I understand that he's a great guy and an even better guy to go have a beer with. Unfortunately that doesn't necessarily make for a great president/war leader. I do believe that George W. Bush has strong convictions and always tries to do what he thinks is right. For some reason though, whether it be lack of personal ability or the selection of and reliance upon the wrong advisors, he hasn't been able to deliver. So much potential, so little to show for it. I am still glad that he beat Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004; I shudder to think what might have been. I think GWB was great wartime president with regards to OEF. I just wish he'd put it to bed before starting OIF. I still feel OIF was justified, although in hindsight not smart for us to start. The planning and execution in OIF certainly leaves something to be desired. Please don't take this to disparage anyone in the military at all. The military has accomplished each and every mission it was assigned. Unfortunately none of those missions included establishing a stable civilian government like we did at the end of WWII. Rather, all the missions have been geared to allow the Iraqis themselves to suddenly discover and institute a western style democracy all on their own. Hurricane Katrina, while not war related, showed that no matter how much compassion or vision GWB has, his government wasn't operating well. I do trust GWB the man, but not all of his decisions after they've been affected by his advisors. I do support GWB the president, but again, not all of his decisions. Gratitude? I am grateful that we haven't been attacked at home again. I believe that we have been protected by his government as opposed to just lucky that the terrorists have been too lazy to try again in the past six years. As to your initial statement, "Our nation does not deserve war leader such as George Bush," America deserve the absolute best leaders. If you're saying that America doesn't deserve a war leader as good as GWB, then you're wrong. If you're saying that America deserves a better war leader than GWB, then you're right. While your statement is open to interpretation, I believe you meant it in the way that is wrong. |
