I would also believe that the GI Bll should be granted to those that wish to use it towards their family members. I have been in the Army for over 21 years and have been on numerous deployments. I have my degree that was provided through the Army tution program, but still have the GI Bill that I probably will never use. I will be having a young daughter graduating from high school this year and I could use my GI bill for her. The family members also deal with stress every time we (Soldiers) go to battle so they deserve the same. I have herd that this change had been in congress for approval. Does anyone know the status? Thank you.

i would like to add my part here, i joined the air force in 1983, finshed my active duty in 1986 and went into the reserves, the education benefits we got was pitiful and really usless, even when i was in college in 96-98 i was allowed 203 dollars from the gi bill, that did not pay anything when you have a family to support. it is time that the elected officails made the military equal for all branches and regardless of guard or reserve status, it seems we are being used more and more with no benefits being allowed

So this new G.I. bill would replace the one I currently have?

I have been active duty for 21 years and believe the current GI Bill could be improved upon, but this bill is not it. 100% tuition paid to any public university plus a housing allowance; where is this money going to come from? And all this for only a service committment of 4-6 years. Sen Webb has argued that this bill will not hurt retention. Not sure what he is smokin, but it is idiotic to think that it won't hurt. The military already has a 100% tuition program in place while you're active duty. Staying active should be the dedication required to receive this benefit, not serving only 6 years.

I just wish they would not raise tricare. My kids will not join nor serve now, as they do not keep their word. NO difference than ENRON.
