This particular "mess" was not started by Mr. Bush. This actually is part of a bi-partisan policy innitiated during the Clinton Administration.
At that time it was realised that Europe was increasing dependent on Oil and gas from the old Soviet Republics. It was decided to build a pipeline, outside of direct Russian control.
I have no problem with that policy. Nor does that policy threaten Russian interests, unless you define Russian interests as inherenently being able to control Europe.
Sasskavilli was apparently warned by us, NOT to respond to Russian provocations. He fell right into Putins plan - by responding to attacks launched on Gerogia from Ossetia. Difficult to really blame him, when I'm not the one being shelled. Now that the trap has been sprung, the real aims of the Russians are being revealed - And revealed not only in Georgia, but an increasingly nationalistic war on all the old members of the Czarist empire.
So, while I'm certainly not advocating a war with Russia over Ossetia, where exactely do people want to draw the line? Ukraine? Poland? The Baltic Nations?
