Mr. Lind and Kaiser Wilhelm II are quite correct. Presidential electioneering is indeed a "flea circus" - a contest among characterless pandering political prostitutes - a contest not at all dissimilar from that of American Idol. The whole process of vying for the "most prestigious job in the world" is shameful, petty and disgusting. If America can do no better than McCain, Romney, Hucklebee, Clinton or Obama, then perhaps the electorate should just call the whole thing off and let de facto President Cheney ascend to the throne. Nolo episcopari certainly does apply. No intelligent, honorable, decent person would sell their soul to the thugs of Wall Street, the military-industrial complex and AIPAC to become President of the United States.

Mr. Lind has detected the decline in our democracy. Half of us don't even bother to vote and the other half doesn't want to address the future economic nightmares that face our children.
Lack of funding for Medicare and Social Security combined with a monstrous national debt combined with an extreme dependence on a declining quantity of oil will destroy us. There's no way we'll be able to fund our military in another thirty years. |
