Why is it, no one mentions that the whole mess in the middle east is the result of the British Empire. That we have been picking up the pieces of their failed empire for forty years. Britain should not be our allies in this, they should be leading. At least say "thank you America for taking care or our business."

If we go back to the British Empire we might as well keep going back to Cain and Abel. Given the lessons of Pax Britannica we had no business pursuing Pax Americana but we did. Given our election choices in 2000 and 2004, we own this mess. Sort of like when the toilet overflows.... swear all you want but you still have to get a mop. Bombing the toilet is not a solution.

Excellent point. Nations are not the same as countries. As the British Empire disintegrated, artificial countries were created, with ethnic nations split or combined. I mean, Iraq...Kurd, Shiite, Sunni, all living together in harmony? Right. Only the iron fist of Saddam kept things together. Kashmir? That's what led India and Pakistan to go nuclear, and it's only a matter of time before a Paki nuke is acquired by al-Qaeda.
