RE: http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,164478,00.html
It just seems strange to me that we are marking our progress or figuring out if we're winning or not by statistical analysis of violence levels , troop and civilian deaths and so on... Doesn't seem that far removed from the body count of Vietnam... |

I wish, like most other Americans, that we didn't have a war anyplace.
But; accordingly -- "War is an art and as such is not susceptible of explanation by fixed formula." -George Patton I believe our Military and Civilian Leaders are, with honor and dignity, trying to DETERMINE the best "way ahead" for our efforts in Iraq. There are no easy answers. There are "varying views;" but, most DON'T advocate a precipitious witdrawal as implied by Senators Clinton and Obama; e.g., we'll "redeploy from Iraq to fight al-Qaida in Afghanistan." Some stress: - (Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England) - - "He said the war on terror will be a long war more analogous to the Cold War than a war with a definite beginning and end. He cited similarities between the post-World War II world and today." - - “Then, we were beginning to adjust and counter communism,” the deputy secretary said. “Today, the nation is still beginning to adjust and counter international terrorism.” - - “Iraq and Afghanistan are today the front lines in the war on terror, but they will one day surrender that distinction to some as yet unknown challenge,...” See: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=49322 - (Navy Adm. William J. "Fox" Fallon, the retiring CENTCOM commander) - - "The increased cooperation between coalition forces and Iraqis at the local level as well as economic progress in Iraq are leading reasons for increasing stability in an unstable region." - - “Although I don't believe there have ever been any differences about the objectives of our policy in the Central Command area of responsibility, the simple perception that there is makes it difficult for me to effectively serve America's interests there,...” See: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=49330 I trust the recommendations that will be presented to the President and Congress in April; will be well-thought-out proposals and will be made "for the best interest" of our Country as a whole. Many bloggers, here at military.com will EXPRESS strong "DISAGREEMENT" with whatever the leaders propose! - According to these "Monday-morning-quarterbacks;" NOTHING is right as it is done by a Republican Administration. - And, assigning blame; rather, than looking for a solution, are their debating points. - Other, than "cut & run;" we're still waiting for a "Specific Action Plan For Iraq" from the Liberals. - Some Leaders are trying! And those "trying" ain't the Democrat Leaders (who already have MoveOn.Org., CodePink, and George Soros's Support). You can trust me on this! From A Proud Vietnam Veteran |

At this point I don't think anyone, either on this forum or on the campaign trail or in Congress, could argue that there has not been a marked improvement in Iraq over the last year. What must happen now is a consolidation of the gains and a well reasoned and gradual turning over of responsibilities to the people of Iraq through their armed forces and political leadership which is still the weak link. It is time for the State Department to take a larger portion of the burden from the military in order to prepare the Iraqis to run their own nation.

Im not new to the site. Im just really bad with computer so i hope i posted the quote i wanted to respond to. This RON888. I agree with you about letting the leaders do there job. So here one on your side. I have and opion on why more sucide bombers. It takes alittle time to brain wash, probally what would have been peaceful men and women and even the kids. But since are troops and now the Iraqi security forces are pushing it takes the insurgent alittle longer to reblenish there sucide arsenol. THats why i believe we should do just the opsite. We should take troops from S Korea we have about forty six thousand give or take. Take 25000 and let them pick up duties from our combat vets in Iraq. And send 25000 of our troops start from one end of Iraq to the other. With a good force on the Iraqi and Iranian border. Thats where most of the insurgents are hiding and getting resplied by the Iranians. We send these troops with as much fire powere they need from tanks to artilirty helicopter the works. And you put a 2 month time limit. They have to come out in 2 months. And as they clean out area we start putting Iraqi security forces in those places. American Army soldiers basic training is 9 weeks. So 2 months should be enough to get alot more iraq troops trained. And we back them but let them start to realize that we do want to leave our troops will leave when they can handle it. The Problem i think happened in this war is we thought Iraqi men would have stood up for there country faster. I think are best military minds never excpected it to take this long to get Iraqi men more involved in helping there country. And thats not to say they are cowards. I beleive it has to do with the culture and the way they are brought up. One brings there kids up with love and peace. The other with hate and destruction. And thats why they are so easily taken over by dictators. Because one group is dictated to love and peace and the other for hate. So the lover fall under the thumbs of the haters. We must now finish and finish strong and hard and make it where these sick fu_ks dont want to fight no more or atleast for awile so Iraq can become stable. If we do it like that we can bring all of our troops home in the next two years. In my opion. And then are troops can come home and really be able to say mission accomplished. Look i dont know if this is the perfect plan. But i think if we go in and do oposite of what they think we could break there backs so i guess you know how i feel about troop reduction right now.
