This is such BS. You train young Marines to kill the enemies of our country, not to hug and sing kumbyah. This is what the Peace Corps is for. Good help us if Obama or Hillary get in.

This is an excellent plan that has caught my attention, of which I would like to be a part of.This will give our country, America a boost on the international scene.
I read the response from the previous member, registered 29 Jul 2003. This person sound angry, but we have to be logical and make friends, the US military presence in any country, rendering humanitarian assistance will cut down our enemies rate, hostilities, etc .
This is a worthy cause, count me in whenever this plan gets off the ground!!

I agree. This is a very good plan. The US has such a damaged image and anything that might improve this image will be very valuable. I am very frustrated by some of the anger and blind enthusiasm displayed by some members of the military(although I appreciate it most times.) Wars and conflicts are not only about killing and kicking butt. I know this type of bad-a*s "shoot and then ask questions" attitude appeals to many members of the military but sometimes we have to keep that testosterone-driven excitement under control and consider the repercussions and and potential effects of the decisions that we as a society take.

I am sure many young brave men are probably thinking "this is completely idiotic" and I am sure a lot of people will respond by saying something like "kill all...hoorah" but history will prove that this type of initiative as described in the article will bring a lot of positive results to the US.

US forces have always done humanitarian work on the side, even in combat zones. Helping to build even while having to destroy helps keep the troops human.

That said, DON'T let such missions come before the combat purpose.

I'm sure that there can be a balance. We helped Germany and Japan. It's just good policy.

The Corps has always, put honor, pride and judgment on even par with killing. However, that's what we do, that's what we're trained for. It's a great idea for those that specialize in that department, but not for my beloved Corps. We are the deterrent if humanitarism doesn't work. Get back under the bridges you ugly troll's. LOL

True, the Corps is a fighting force first.

But the very thing that makes it so effective is it's mobility and ability to deploy a large, well-equipped package of highly-trained and motivated, well-disciplined personnel on short notice.

Marines have been part of humanitarian missions for many, many years...a noble aspiration indeed, and one the United States can take great pride in.

Semper Fi Marines...thanks for ALL YOU DO.

The CH-47 pictured was part of TF Quake which the admiral was in charge of. The vast majority of the assets in Pakistan were U.S.
Army undar the Joint TF command of The Admiral .

As a Marine you should know that exactly this type of mission/force structure is as much a part of the Corps' history as the term "Leatherneck" and "...the shores of Tripoli".. the 'we are not the world's 911 service' is a relatively recent phenomenon in American history.. if it makes it easier to swallow, think of it as 'keeping our enemies closer'....

To win a insurgency, or a 4th Generation war is more then just killing the enemy. Do you think our future wars are going to be WWII type or what we are in now? This is an interesting concept that can help deter anti- american or Pro Islamist views before they start. Best way to beat an enemy is making him your friend and you never have to fight him.

The Marines and Navy are ideally suited for this mission with it's Sea- Land capabilities and it's Expeditionary nature.

It's worth a shot

I remember that Great Britain,(Chamberlain)signed a frendly (PACT) treaty with Hitler, so did the Russians. Guess What?

I will share this with you;
Written by Gen Louis H Wilson, 26th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and decorated with the M.O.H. for heroics in WWII,

The wonderful love of a beautiful maid,
The love of a staunch true man,
The love of a baby, unafraid,
Have exsisted since time began.

But the greatist loves,
The quintessence of loves'
Even greater than that of a Mother,
Is the tender, passionate, infinite love,
Of one drunken Marine for another....

You don't get it. The military was established to defend, not aid. If we're going to continue aiding all these countries with a military presense, we might consider establishing another branch of service with a sensitive side that people such as yourself would be comfortable in. If it is necessary to send in a force that is known for being "heart breakers and life takers" that country may be a bit hostile and not ready for aid.

The National Guard has this mission. The Army is much better suited for these "help us or we'll hate you" mission. Why couldn't we send these assets on Navy ships if there is a need? Army personnel can "wheels up" off a ship as well as any military aircraft and I've seen Army personnal making insertions from Naval assets. As for the love affair with the Pakistanies: that was a "one night stand" and after we paid that "ho" she went right back and hates us again. The Corps should have 100,000 more "boots" NOW, and quit trying to femanize, liberalize, and "love us" as that doen't work, has never worked...Marines are not garrison troops. After they do their thing, rush in, kill everything, disarm the enemy and make him wish he was someplace else, pull them out, send in the Army to "hold" and it goes on. Next thing will announce is that the Marines will not carry their weapons on these humanitarian missions. I'll bet old Chesty is rolling in his grave.

Its not just an Army CH-47, its an Army Reserve CH-47. The majority of assets in Task Force Quake were USAR Bco 7/158 AVN REGT from Kansas. The Marines hooked the loads to the aircraft, I was there on the aircraft everyday, and may I say thanks to the marines for the great job they did to help us out on those long days.
