i really wish i could find a job at this place .. being a veteran and now being a gourmet chef myself.. i wish i could get in there and help develope some good ole comfort food mre's to help the boys go at it with a good home stlyed cooked meal out of an mre
hello..MREs(Yum)!Still Can't Beat The UK Military C-Rats!lol..US MRE's I Recall on Exercise(s)came in Sealed Bags & Ate Along with Brit C-Rats..Yup You could Come Up with A Delicious Feast from these Or As We Called It 'Airbourne Stew' A Combination of All in One Mess-Tin! ebz7350
I REMEMBER MY DAD'S C-RATS, HORLICKS MALTED MILK TABS, CHEESEE IN A CAN, BREAD IN A CAN, PUDDINGS, ETAL. IT WAS HI CAL, AND COULD BE HEATED. BUT WE LIVED ON A FARM, SO IT WAS A "TREAT" TO, US. BUT THE BOAT CREWS IN VIETNAM LOVED TO COME ALONGSIDE AND GET FRESH BREAD FROM MY GALLEY.
i have always found MRE's always seem to taste like canned spaghetti-O's, good thing they come with tabasco love that stuff, can cover up about anything, some chilli-mac with a bottle of tabasco is my fav
I did not get a chance to eat MRE's much before I retired, I think I hadmeatballs in marinara, and chili with beans, and something like chicken ala king. Not any worse than C-rations for the most part and better and the Ham and Limas beans(AKA as ham and m-fs), beef and potatos(beef and rocks). There were some good ones, boned chicken, beans and weiners, beans and meatballs. Up until lates 60's or early 70's there were also cigarettes, which non smokers could use to trade for the more edible rations.
Oh Joy what next an inflateable doll to use as a date when you go out to eat these delights?? Now come on...it is the thought that counts. Without dating myself, they are better than "C" or "K" rations by a long shot. I was given C-rats in 1973 that were dated 1945!! Yes, we ate them and yes we lived to tell about it. However when I see a squirel cage I still get excited!!

MRE's have come a long way in the past ten years. Ten years ago most of them were just barely edible. Now some of them are actually good, and the worst are simply bland rather than disgusting.
Like most the MRE’s keep a half case at home in case of flooding or other problems certainly beats hard tack or what ever that biscuit in the C and K rations was, how was it said “extremely uninteresting except as a chewing exercise” God bless and protect all our people in harms way where ever they are. Pro Deo et Patria
Meals Rejected by Ethiopians? Got to be better than the K rations they fed us when our chow hall got closed down by the IG for being unsafe. I guess they didn't find the cockroaches amusing.
MRE's have always been the overall winner in todays military, however, besides c - rations, the military tested a few other type of Meal rations.
I remember MOOR's with the chem packs, add water, watch it bubble up. They didn't last long though. Then those lovely T RATS, ick, ick. Nothing like metal shavings in your Breakfast.
