Now Hawaii! This whole thing is becoming a joke. I swear, if I ever see a Volvo with a bumper sticker on it that say's "save our tree's" while I'm hunting. I'm going to pelt it full of holes. Because I know those tree huggers would be out there somewhere with loudspeakers searching for me. Big Grin

I'm inclined to believe that if we place marine mammals before national security, then we very well may not have any grandchildren to enjoy anything! Yes, respect the environment but, protect America first!

At least the enemy will know where to park their subs. Thus avoiding a parking jam

"Sir, I just picked up a pod of whales. I think."
"Well seaman, what happened to the sub we were chasing?"
"Captain Sir, I'm very sure it is inside the pod but "Greenpeace" is sailing right above it and we can't continue to ping it Sir."
"Break off helmsman, we have to let this one go or we will all be in Levenworth by the end of the month."

LOL ... and the President will exercise his authority under the US Code and ... waive it for the exercises.

Whoever wrote the article did not read the referenced judge's earlier decision. She did not rule on the President's waiver but rather on another issue.

This will go round in the courts and ... the Navy will meanwhile complete its exercise schedule doing that which is reasonable ... and not doing that which is not.

This is crazy!

Is it because it is an election year?
Some really creepy things going on.

Why, even one adversarial individual on the in the news site is posting, and posting to himself. I'm thinking it might escalate into an argument!

Seems like common sense has become uncommon sense.

we as a nation need to protect ourselves and he use of sonar is a part of it pearl harbor was a result of beaurocracy and caused the lives of many americans. yes the see life is importen but what if some middle east terror group got its hands on a sub we would be unable to protect or people with out warning. remember the dead when you pass laws that lower the safty of our people a sonarnet placed around the islands with low noie could protect the animal from harm 9/11 is another failure to protect our people how many more must die to make these people happy

There will be no future if our military cannot detect intruders of our shores with technology of today find a solution before cutting off our protection.

Was it not just last month that a enemy sub surfaced next to one of our carriers (as if to say "what if")? Stupidity, that will be the end of our nation.

"a enemy sub..." enemy indeed sir.

Respectfully, with which nation are we at war whose submarine surfaced near (how near?) our ship?

These left wing tree hugging hippies will not be happy untill we have a Navy that is not trainined in how to locate enemy submarines hiding in inner costal water ways. I'm sure China, Iran, and North Korea think this is great fun. Keep in mind all three countrys operate diesel subs that are specifically designed to hid in inner costal water ways. Maybe the liberals won't be happy until on of our cities goes up in a fire ball, and I'm sure when that happens it will still be our fault

With all due respect, Sgt, I truly believe that our national security is the number 1 priority. That being said, we cannot take our shores lightly. Before 9-11, we the people were absolutely dumbfounded that, 1) our civilian planes were hijacked, 2) 19 fanatical religious zealots flew those hijacked planes into the WTC and the Pentagon, and 3) how is it possible for these individuals (terrorists) could be allowed to do what they just did?!?! So, you see, we MUST take every nation seriously. Do you think China is our friend or are we just placating them? As Ronald Reagan said, "Trust but verify", I believe we are in NO position to "slack" off on our military training and readiness. Although I am disapointed with our current admin not sealing the borders, I do recall the President asking the citizens to stay vigilant. I will NEVER forget 9-11 and if I can, I will do my part to be vigilant, and part of that is supporting our military to do whatever it needs to make them ready and able!

JMHO, I could be wrong...

INCREMENTALISM

First the liberal tree huggers shut down the west coast ASW operations, now Hawaii. In no time flat rest assured they will be going after the east coast fleet. So before you know it we won't be able to train the way we need to because of the tree huggers. This type of training HAS to take place close to shore,it is not something you can simulate on a computer or read in a book.If our country expects the Navy to safeguard the Country from threats from the sea why in God's name do we hamstring them from doing their job.

This is CRAP!!! I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and work on a dive charter boat. The Humpbacks come out here every year from Nov. to April, and this season we've seen MORE mother humpbacks with babies, MORE male escorts, and MORE adolescent females than in the previous three years I've been here. All less than 200 miles from Pearl Harbor Naval Base. So this tells me that this argument (sonar messing with the whales) like all other arguments made by the tree huggers is BULLSHIT!
I cannot begin to tell you how SICK of the environmental movement I have become. NOT ONE ITEM on their "agenda" is good for this Nation. Can't drill in ANWAR, can't have new refineries or nuclear power plants, but we CAN have sob's trying to tell me what kinds of light bulbs I have to have, not to mention $3.75 a gallon gasoline. And don't even TRY to tell me about "those evil oil companies" gouging us. It says right here on the pump $.42 cent PER GALLON state tax on my gas. (THANKS ALOT to my DEMOCRAT controlled legislature!)
Tree hugging freako nut jobs and thier liberal lap dog politician buddies are almost as much of an enemy to this Nation as Terrorism.

Earth First, we'll drill, log and mine the other planets later!!!

Back in 2001, the USS Greenville accidentally collided with and sunk a Japanese finish vessel off the coast of Oahu. 9 Japanese crew members were killed.

Do we really want to blind our ships?
