Not posting as a Mod here.

Wow, I guess I am the first poster. I do think it is awesome that the recent veterans participate in government, there is NOT enough of that going around these days. City Council chambers are nearly vacant in my city of 100K people.

It's great because I can make suggestions usually unopposed that they usually adopt (the developers don't like me because they have to pay for it usually). It is pretty cool but I would be more comfortable if there were more people taking the time to put their ideas in as well.

As for running for Congress, also a good trend if this is a trend. Wish this candidate well and hope he finds the support in his district he needs.

I'm for any veteran running for office with the Iraq and Afghanistan war experience. I have always believed that President Bush was on the right track for the right reasons.

My biggest fear is for anti-war activists to hold key positions in government when the only reason they are anti-war is their distaste for war for any reason.

Well, I certainly think it's about time.
And I already know whom I'll be voting for. I'm damn tired of all the non vets making decisions for the vets care and welfare, thinking they know anything about the service, before, during or after. Can anyone tell me where Hilery's husband was in 1968? What service did Obama serve in?

I think it's great that veterans are running for elected office. So many politicians haven't got a clue. I am a 20 year veteran living in the "People's Republic of Massachusetts". Personally John Kerry and Ted Kennedy embarras me. We have two veterans running against Kerry this year, Mr. Beatty and Mr. Oganowski. They are both equally qualified to replace the second most liberal senator next to Obama. Alas I believe they have no chance as our great stae has been taken over by commies, red doper diaper babies, pinkos, sexual deviants, invertebrates and genuine enemies of the state. Until the moonbats relocate to Berkely I must say that the future does not look bright.

Don't give up the ship!

I think the people that have served this country have every right to run for office anywhere. I dont necessarily think that serving in military qualifies you to be elected though. There should be some other qualities as well. But I also support for a all former veteran congress because they are the ones that authorize war and therefore are in a better position from past experience to know what war is all about rather than some of these other people that are currently there.

Pro-War is another one of those Liberal labels for those who don’t believe in losing. I think we can all remember that labels given to our Service members who served in Viet Nam: Baby-Killer, War Monger, War Lover, War Criminals, Rapists, Fascist Pig (refereeing to our military coming back), Killers, murderer …

Maybe they have seen up close and personal the consequences of losing?
And feel that is not acceptable?

Obama was coming of age in a time of military cutbacks and reductions - the 80s. How about telling us where Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Kagan, Krystal, Hewitt, and other big fans of this and the war in Vietnam were in 68? How about our CinC, who by anybody's admission didn't exactly thrust himself to the forefront to volunteer for Vietnam when he had the chance? How about Rove, Romney, Huckabee, and Tancredo? Always talking big about their patriotism, but not actually willing to serve or send their kids to serve either.

I may disagree with McCain, but at least he served and encouraged his sons to serve. Can't say that for the vast majority of the Republican elite.

Maybe these young war vets getting into Congress on either side can at least bring some understanding of beans and bullets issues to the process, even if they end up disagreeing with each other. Maybe we'll see a less cavalier attitude toward vets and their needs than the one we're getting from the present administration.

Take a look at the vets who are running for Congress. A number of them are against the war. Being against this war doesn't mean one is opposed to all war for whatever reason, but that stupid wars should be avoided.

why in the hell would anybody thats been in combat want too see more war? iraq an nam are kind of the same. no war just a police action.how many people have to die too make you happy. thr only ones that are winning is big business.maybe if the war goes on as long as nam or longer like repugs would like too see, then just maybe you might end up being called names too. we are in a no win war. face it

There is no such thing as a combat veteran who is "Pro-war" unless it is unavoidable, which Iraq was.

I sense a couple of chickenhawks in this thread, get lost.

What about Freedom Fighters. After all 25 million people become free after Saddam fell. That make anti-war protesters anti Freedom. I also heard that war has never done anything good. As I recalled, slavery was ended on a war, we got our freedom from a war.
