I wonder if they would protest a U.S. presence if they were invaded again? Also, I don't recall them protesting too much outside Olongapo when we were paid every two weeks! Beer

You got that right, and then some. The girls (1000 at least, every time the Kitty Hawk went into port there anyway) almost pulled your arms off from the second that after-brow hit the pier.

Chances are that this protest is led by the insurgency there, and not the general population. There really is no U.S. "presence" in the P.I. anymore, at least nothing even close to what it was before the 1980's.

Time will tell...

Let's get all the U.S. troops out and let them rot where they are. After all the U.S. did for this country this is the thanks they show when we return to train their troops. Let all the LBFMPBR's find a different kind of work.

If the Filipino Gov't wants the US Military out then all they have to do is say so. However, if they invite us over there to conduct joint military operations with their military then the civilian population should STFU. Seems like the religion of California is spreading world wide.

Freedom of speech...even if we don't care for what's being said. They, too, have the right.

We pulled out completely right after Mt. Pinatubo erupted(1991) and smothered Clark AFB in two feet of dust, but we had already been downsizing and in fact their government had already demanded we get out, and we were...sometime in the mid 1980's?

I liked the protester standing outside the last base we closed with a sign that said "Yankee Go Home! And Take Me With You!

Why is it that were there are muslims, there is problems? Indonesia, Africa, The middle east, Europe. Is this a world wide plot by them? Is this part of the war on terror, fed by extremist, and part of their plan to take over the whole world? It seems like they sure are organized, and working in a concerted effort.

If the P.I. have any freedoms, it's only thanks to the men of the 40th Infantry Division!

TerryPaggi and Weatherguesser nailed it. { yaa know,,,the best chow I ever had was at the Cubi Point NAS chow hall}

If anyone was protesting U.S. Troops being there,,,it was more than likely the moslem terrorists that have been kidnapping/murdering in the P.I. for decades now.

And just how long would they have freedom of speech without a military or Federal Gov't to protect them?

30 protesters in a country of 88 million is totally insignificant. The real problem is the people stirring up the stink by writing this story to start with. There have been and always will be , protesters since there has been war. Mad

The 'boys' who are there now aren't 'screwing' with them the same way. They're killin' 'em!

Or rather, 'helping them fight a brutal Moslem insurgency'.

My family; career Navy has been going there since the 1930s. Every time I went there it seemed like time had stood still. What my father and uncles talked about was still there. When you rode the transport into Clark the "today your life is worth $2." announcement just before arrival was standard fair. "Use caution when entering or exiting the main gate" the grandmothers were back jumping in front of our vehicle to collect money from the U.S. Government again. Still going on. My last trip there was exciting. The air wing went up to Cubi as usual. We were finishing up one of the last cruises of the non war. When we put to sea some of the black shoe crew, had been busy scuffling with each other at Subic. It carried over to the steam back to Yankee Station. We and our sister ship had a small on board scuffle turn into a roving gang fight. A shining example of Naval leadership in action. The rumors were a little wild, no one was killed, one ship had to send one injured sailor to a facility ashore. The Navy fixed that by flying everyone tail off on station before heading home. I think the P.I.s are exactly where they should be. Be nice if they remained there and we got on with business at home. If someone feels the need to return so be it. My sons are in my place now 4th generation career military. Just could be they will have the same opportunity's their father, grand father and great grand father had. I hope not. Maybe they will get their wish and we will go away never to return.

You treat them good and they treat you like sh*t. Nothing wrong with that story ... except the parts that get left out.

Why don't you and Hap just read the headlines, then you'd know everything?

Why confuse yourself reading past the first paragraph? This is where 'junk thought' comes from. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. Roll Eyes
