Sergeant Jacobs rest easy now and thank you for the service to our nation when the words honor, truth and integrity had genuine meaning.
We have have gone so long, doing so much, with so little, now we can do anything with nothing. |

Don't mess with the OLD FARTS - age, skill, wisdom, and a little treachery always overcome youth and arrogance...... |

If I may add to this memorial... my best friend's step Dad, Roy Lyons, who died this Thanksgiving at the age of 89, was on that island as well. Of the 250 or so men of his battalion who landed on the island, he was one of only 7 who walked off on their own. Of course, they went to the next island to continue fighting. He and Sgt. Jacobs, two men of what is truly "The Greatest Generation."

The greatest generation is rapidly fading. Their accomplishments will be with us for many generations as will our debt to them. May you and all of your comrades rest in peace, knowing your sacrifices were not in vain. Godspeed and Semper Fi Sgt. Jacobs.

Whether it is the Sgt. in the picture makes no difference, every man on that Island was a HERO. Many thousands of B-29 crewmen owe their lives to the Marines that took Iwo.
Rest in Peace Sarge. |

You can have your army khakis,
And your navy blues, Here's a different sort of fighting man, I'll introduce to you. His uniform is unlike Any you've ever seen; And the Germans called him Devil Dog, But his real name is Marine! He was born on Parris Island (San Diego or the Hills of Quantico) The land that God forgot. The sand was 14 inches deep, the sun was blazing hot. He'd get up every morning, Way before the sun, And he'd run a hundred miles or more, Before the day was done. He fought from Wake Island, To the black volcanic sand. When ever our country goes to war, The Marines are first to land. We'll fight them on the ground, We'll fight them in the sky, When the Army and Navy are heading home, The Marines are standing by. And when he gets to heaven, To St. Peter he will tell, "Another Marine reporting, Sir, I've served my time in Hell!" Semper Fi and thank you Sgt. Jacobs. |

WELL, THE GREAT "GODS"of this neat web-site won't let me post what I really feel. So. I will give you my "crippled" view.
Whatever the truth (which history seems to want to obscure), we just lost a real hero. Rest in Peace, my friend. Those of us that that followed in your footsteps, were there with you in your challenges. HOPE YOU HAVE FINALLY FOUND PEACE AND SOLACE WITH THE LORD. Some of us are still seeking God's foregiveness. |
