But folks, it's just the press trying their best, in an unbiased manner to inform the public.

Did everyone's sarcasm meters pin out on that one? Cool

Look on the bright side, at least you don't have to worry about your maxed out credit cards, dipping 401k or sub prime loan anymore! Wink

This is hot bull, under extreme circumstances its not gonna be a cake walk, obviously. I just got assigned to a newly created guard unit and I know with the veterans we have the mission can be accomplished. All you need is your rifle and some motivation. Gun

Well, first of all our country just needs to do something about universal military training, or has got to start some type of civilian defense corps. A good example is like what the Brits were doing during WWII. We need a much larger force, there is no doubt about it. This is my job in the National Guard. Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological. We train to react to an attack of this type. We don't train to use weapons like this against our enemy because it has been deemed barbaric, uncivilized, and goes against the very moral fabric of our nation. We train constantly for this. Especially decontamination of civilian and military assets and personnel. So I think this report is a little off. Sure we don't have all the equipment we need, thats because it all went to Iraq, and Afghanistan and has not been replaced. What we do have are combined reaction teams which are made up of Active duty National Guard, and Marine Corp troops who can respond to an act of this nature on the drop of a hat. It is very hard to become a team member, and the teams are generally made up of some of the best in the field. What our government should be concentrating on is making sure nothing like this ever happens here by ensuring our ports and airports and highways have the best in detection devices available, and not selling the operation rights of the ports to foreign nations who could really care less if we are attacked or not. Our borders being unprotected is our greatest threat. Until this country does what is necessary to ensure that every square mile of our borders is guarded and monitored this will continue to be a threat. As long as illegals can get across, so can terrorists.

1st of all..When was it ever "prepared"?..
& what exactly is the guard & reserve's role in situation like this?
It's not widly known, but FEMAs actual reason for exsistence in the beginning was for these very scenereos..Not hurricane relief..Secondly. & I stress this..This is also a big reason for the 2nd amendment..Not to deal with the NBC incident itself..But armed citezens, also known as "the millitia" would be able to provide some level of autonomous security when the govenment is overwhelmend & can no longer ensure that basic needs can be met after the destrction of infastructure & loss of order.
Besides that..That "study" had only one goal in mind...I can see right through it.It's actually just one egg headed beaurcrats opinion..But it was designed to be "alarmist" & probably just another shot at the Bush administration.
