Hmmm... sounds like those who finish high school are exercising their skills in critical thinking.

Exactly... doesn't take a high school graduate to figure out the futility of the administrations folly in Iraq...pun intended.

You both are students of John Kerry..
"You better stay in school or you'll get stuck in Iraq"
As if to imply we're just a bunch of idiots.

You need to rethink your life choices, buddy & maybe consider GTFO & become a "consciencious objector" ..Or at least stay out of Balad while I'm there.

Wow, talk about pick a topic then make up an argument that isn't there, to try and bolster your own prejudice...
Your line of reasoning baffles the mind...

RIIIIIGHT. When's the last time you spoke with a high school graduate? Consider the fact that most current grads were just finishing middle school when this conflict began. Most grads have NO clue why we are in this conflict. They are more college-minded than previous generations. They envision joining up and getting shot and aren't concerned with LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY, PERSONAL COURAGE. Go figure. The future of America has been framed by those who are afraid to get their hands dirty and then THEY had kids.

While I can understand why a graduate would be reluctant to want to learn to take up arms against another. Blaming the administration is not the way to go. I am sure they didn't request terrorist assaults against the US. The difference between an enlistee and a person that avoids the service, is the enlistee feels the need to serve and though some are interested in killing alone. I think a desire to serve should be a desire to defend the Country, not a desire to kill. Evil does exist and although its an unpleasent job we must all be thankful that people feel called to serve or we would be forced to do it alone.

Back to the original topic of lowering standards availible to the service. Anytime a war drags on for this long people will get tired of hearing about it. Most graduates most likely have been touched by the war in some way by now, coloring their decision.

BS. The current generation is NO less concerned with "LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY, PERSONAL COURAGE" than previous generations but the current admin has made so many mistakes and refused to take responsiblity so often that they have convinced a lot of people that helping it is NOT the best way forward (sort of like the actions of Johnson and Nixon in Vietnam, you get caught lying often enough and a lot of people stop believing anything you say). You have to get young people involved before you can get them to support a position and youths are less willing to excuse hypocrisy. Also lets face it youth as a rule does not see the gray areas when they think older adults are trying to lie to them they just tend to then disbelieve anything else that is said.

True, but that was a completely different time and completely different type of war. You really can't compare them.

Blaming the administration is not the way to go.Excuse me?, it was the administration that got us into Iraq, in case you forgot. I am sure they didn't request terrorist assaults against the US.How is that relevant to the topic??? The difference between an enlistee and a person that avoids the service, is the enlistee feels the need to serve and though some are interested in killing alone. So "avoiding" the service is somehow unpatriotic now? I think a desire to serve should be a desire to defend the Country, not a desire to kill.Agreed. But defending the constitution means so much more than fighting insurgents in a country we invaded, unprovoked. Evil does exist and although its an unpleasent job we must all be thankful that people feel called to serve or we would be forced to do it alone. And apparently there are fewer and fewer people who feel called to serve as the economy goes to he** and we have no clear objective in Iraq and China is slowly taking over our country from the inside and, well I could list many reasons but it is not germaine to this topic.

Hence you get the difficulty that the military is having recruiting.....

Really? Let's see, Pearl Harbor, 9-11.
Fanatics fighting to die, Kamakazi suicide pilots. Fascist Islamic fundamentalists wanting to kill anyone that doesn't believe in their philosophy, Nazi Germans killing political dissidents in death camps, then of course a blind hatred of Jews and the desire to extinguish the Jewish race from the planet.
Yeah, no comparison at all...

Difficulty? Naw don't think so, the article was about more non high school diploma recruits.
It also stated that they were getting more GED diploma recruits than in the past, they "preferred" actual "High School Diploma" grads.
They are not only meeting their goals, but are meeting them on an expansion in size of the U.S. Army. Might as well stick to what was said in the article shall we...

Go back and read the article again. It DID say that: The Army's goal is 90 percent high school graduates, which it hasn't met since 2004. Each year since, the number of recruits with at least a high school diploma has steadily declined.
MY mistake in not clarifying exactly what difficulties the military is having in recruiting "HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES"..... Roll Eyes

OK. won't go there. Let's just call apples, apples and oranges, oranges. Yes they are both fruits but they are not the same....make all the comparisons you want about idealogies and tactics and religion. There are dozens of countries that fit the bill. When would you have us go in and correct those atrocities????
Hope you have a few trillion in your bank account to pay for it...along with a few million clones of yourself to do the fighting (and dying)...I won't advise, encourage, assist, etc. anyone I know to join a futile fight that serves no greater good of the American public.

They also stated that they were in the middle of an expansion AND that due to the expansion, they were accepting more GED diploma graduates, GO READ IT AGAIN YOURSELF, APPARENTLY YOUR COMPREHENSION IS LOW...
Like I said, you took a non issue and made an issue to comment on, just to support your preconceived notions and prejudices...

How about this generation is an all volunteer military and has been for over thirty plus years.
Even the World War II generation was a majority draft Army, especially after 1943 and later...
