GOOD A/C THAT HAS FINALLY REACHED IT'S TRUE POTENTIAL AND THEN SOME. EVEV THOUGH THE H-46'S ARE A GREAT BIRD, THEY HAVE TOO MANY HOURS ON THE FRAMES. WITH THE EXEPTION OF THE TILT SYSTEM, THE OSPREY IS A GOOD CLEAN SYSTEM THAT IS NEEDED. THE TILT SYSTEM IS THE ONLY EXOTIC PART AND THAT IS PROVING ITSELF.

This is a great BLACK special operations aircraft that fits an important nitch - but not an aircraft to fly into a hot fire zone where people fire back...
We need hard the facts... what price are we paying for what capability? What are the total costs per hour? What price do we pay for the extra speed? The war has been since 2003 why so late in the game when its almost over? neil cosentino Helicopter Pilot and Vietnam Combat Pilot... |

Have you had a kid wounded in Combat? Has your kid been hit by IED's, mortar fragments, or took a round to the chest? I don't Fucking care how much it cost to get our people out of a bad situation. |

A big ATTA-BOY to the teams of men and women that have designed, built, tested and now deployed with yet another remarkable flying machine…the MV-22 Osprey. Very few countries have the ability and vision it takes to develop tomorrows incredibly dynamic aircraft such as you find in the USA.
Starting a long time ago this idea for an unusual aircraft was to beat back critics, threats of funding loss and lack of political support as it evolved from a concept to reality. As sometimes happens when you push the envelope of flight, learning comes with a cost that is painful and makes proceeding very difficult yet having the right people in the right places have proven that the Osprey can and has over come adversity and now stands tall in its place in Marine Aviation. The lessons learned the Osprey has given from it’s experienced in Iraq will no doubt be studied and utilized thoroughly as the USAF brings it’s V-22 on line and into operational use. As the Osprey is matured in both combat and in humanitarian support missions, there is no doubt the lives it will save, the relief it will bring and the aid to peoples around the world will follow this aircraft into the history books as one of the most unusual looking but also one of the most hard working and diverse ever. The more it is used, the more it will be used and its flight envelope expanded to allow it to do so much more than ever envision. To the overall Osprey Team, you can be proud of what you have accomplished and what you have given those who will utilize this crazy flying machine for years to come. Again, ATTA-BOY!! |

I wonderif the votes it got Mr Murtha to remain in congress was worth sticking with the A/c when the military wanted to ditch it. Allowing Murtha to stay in congress killed a lot more warriors than the A/c will save. Thats my opinion since most of the parts that are failing are coming from Murthas district so i am told. He alone kept it going gfor one branch of the services. We need weapons and A/c that can serve all services because of the cost of development.

Accepting the content of this report as fact, even the harshest critic of the Osprey over its cost, vulnerability, and inflexibility, should recognize that the Osprey is effective as a troop/cargo carrier in a low intensity environment.

These guys must have the most expensive public relations experts around. No one else could have come up with this opinion. The airplane may work, but at what cost?

It's troubling to see a quick and virulent attack of anyone who raises the enormous, and still very real, cost/ benefit issue of this bird.
It's always nice to say that America has the best, newest, fastest, and most expensive, but a lot of friends would have been thrilled to have a few dozen DC-3s, for $1 million a copy, instead of several generations of "improvements" that were no such thing. And yes, for black ops, and medivac, this may be the perfect solution - but it was not sold on that basis, and there is still no sense that it is, or ever will be, a competent hot zone replacement for the old fashioned fixed rotor. When this bird was declared operational without any forward mounted firepower, they should have gotten honest, and painted a big white cross on it, or a yellow cap logo, because it was too expensive to seed a mod 2 and mod 3 that really will be the general purpose "killer bus" that was first promised, and without firepower, adequate load lift, or even a head for crying out loud, it reminds one of the old saw about a camel being a horse designed by a committee (of Congress) . . . |

I only hope they can talk to each other. Maybe one morning they'll decide to glass the place then go to the em, nco, and o club and change rings together.

No transport helicopter has forward mounted firing guns on it, not the Blackhawk, the Phrog(Ch46), the CH53, etc.. The old Huey gunship had some small transport capability with forward firing guns, but not much.
Why this continued protest about the Osprey not having forward firing guns? NO MODERN CURRENT TRANSPORT HELO HAS FORWARD FIRING GUNS. S/F Tipy |

Just like LAVs Ospreys have some bugs. LAVs have been great but it took time to work out some bugs, and so will Ospreys. Time and hard work will make this a great program. I am greatful that LAVs don't fly.

The Marine Corps fought very hard for this Aircraft. They felt and still feel that for their type of mission and the amount of men they have that this aircraft will support their needs. Let them have it. Its their money.

To 3984435: MV22 is not just a transport plane.. they were sold as "a medium lift assault, self-deployment, and sustained land operations capable air vehicle. The MV-22 must provide combat assault transport of Marines in the initial assault waves and follow-on stages of amphibious operations and subsequent operations ashore."

I would love to get behind the stick on one of these. Everything I have read says they are much easier to controll than previous birds! Kudos!

The "game" is far from over. The Osprey will have ample time to prove itself in combat. |
