It seems no matter how many come home, we still have 130,000 there...very odd how Petraeus' math works.

RE: http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,160311,00.html

What happened to the 3 Star General that was suspose to oversee the war for President Bush? Just thank what would happen if the good ole General would pull out the troops - only to have to re-introduce them again when the poop hits the fan.

There is no way that the our troops will be out of Irag for the next 10 years. As we keep supporting the Irag Govt. and helping them put the country back together, our country is falling into an economic resession. We need to save some of that money for our own country.

There is a way, and I would be willing to bet that 9 out of 10 of the U.S. troops now in IRAQ will be out within the next 4 years, if not sooner.

I would also be willing to bet that the Republican candidate(whomever that ends up being) will also be calling for their removal... Because of they don't, they won't get elected to much of anything.

At his confirmation hearing, Gen. Petraeus foresaw and stated clearly that this drawdown (to 130,000) would have to occur, for reasons that were purely logistical ... there are not enough troops in the pipeline to sustain at 170,000 (without a draft and/or tour extensions).

So the news is mixed: it's good news that the Iraq surge worked as well as it did. It's not good news that the Iraq nation-building job is proceeding slowly, incompletely, and corruptly.

IMHO, the main thing that Gen. Petraeus is starved of is not troops, but nation-building resources. The State and Justice Departments continue to deliver (basically) nothing in Iraq. They say "It's not our job." Frown Mad

This mission-dodging is a disaster for our soldiers. Because when vital war-winning objectives (like a functioning Iraqi Justice System) *must* be achieved, then no excuses can be accepted.

Disastrously, this goal has not had the full attention of SecDef Rice and AttGen Mukasey.

SecDef Rice and AttGen Mukasey *must* commit to helping our soldiers win.

I would like to introduce my simple, two-step program:

2. nuke

I think it is great to hear that they will bring home at least five brigades it is about time, but it would be even better if all of our fellow veterans could come home I no that is impossible but it is just a thought.
And the other good news as far as I am concern is when I see that bum it the White House kicked to the curb in January 09,and back to his hillbilly Texas, ranch Gee!do u think I have a distain for him!

Is the President leaving office? I thought he would have figured out a way around that no third term amendment by now. He's had eight years to do it, and the Supreme Court is sure to back it. Why change leaders if you don't have to? Is it the old Nixon shuffle? 5 out and 6 in? Smile

gotta agree on the math, itz still 130K. If there is a change of those with their boots on the ground, it could change within 19 months to 100K.

Think we'll be out of Korea by then?

How about Hawaii?

The way around has already been figured out.

But Laura doesn't have Hillary's aggressive streak, so it won't work for the Bush's.

We certainly could use the extra troops here in our cities and on our highways. With their experience they just might make our streets safe in a few years and I wouldn't have to carry a 45 when leaving home.
