My question is, "Why was the Tommy Bartlett Water Show" allowed to get as close as they did? These towel heads should have been blown out of their fiberglass boats! Beer

Warning shots fired last month? No need to put that on the news? Or did the media ignore it, too?

Using fast boats "for years" and now it's a new development?

Curiouser and curiouser

I'll be so glad when the new season of "24" starts along with "Weed", "The Tudors', "Entourage" and "Californication" come back on the air that I won't know what to do. Less time watching the news. Ever since cable news launched and entertainers like Billy O came on board every news caster wants their own show now. And they will say or do anything to get it. Just look at all the breast enlargements and botox all the chicks have on "Fox".

"towel heads"?

this term undermines your point.

as for the point on this thread... i think that 3 warnings are 2 warnings too many... sink the "brave" souls and "Charlie Mike"

I particularly enjoyed Fred Thompson's statement.

The full video shows more. Boxes being dropped overboard by the Iranians and the evasive maneuvers the US Ships had to take.

I agree that 3 warnings is 2 too many.

I think the Navy chose the appropriate response to the fast boats. To have engaged them with deck guns may have invited a Silkworm anti ship missile from the Iranian shoreline defenses in response to the engagement. If that had happened, most certainly we would be at a state of war with the Iranians now.

This not the point of this article per-se'. But can we afford another conflict with another crazed nation? How many more citizens must die or be so mentally out of it that they can not even vote for our country's freedom to STAY in place?
Callus? Maybe. Unless the draft comes back we are really going to be sunk in this nation. As for our sailors out there; keep up the good work.

WHO IS REALLY CONCERNED ?

War is war and teasing the "enemy" as long as you don't hurt him is a mind game. It also relieves the boredom.

If anyone were interested, I can tell stories from the MLR in Korea, 1952. Throwing C Ration cans of cornbeef instead of grenades is one story.

If you are going to fight a war, you have to keep a sense of humor and Biblical perspective of "love your enemy". Smile

I know several of those on Fox that you accuse of breast enlargements and botox and nothing could be further from the truth - though I dare say it would not be quite as entertaining watching one of these Fox women brush their hair as it is watching John Edwards primp.

Deny, deny, deny. The Iranians are getting to sound more like our politicians more and more everyday. On the other hand, why don't we let them know that if they get within so many yards of coalition ships, they will see Allah first hand. Restraint is a sign of weakness and they will do it again. Let them see the 47 virgins in person, so many virgins--so much ugly.....God Bless the USA and OUR Troops.

They call that close. On my first deployment they were close enough to here them talking at normal volume. But, our CO was a wuss.

But, then again, we also transited the Straits with casualties on CWIS, Harpoon, Tomahawk, SCR-19, SVTT and SM-2. Our only real defense was .50 cal and 5" (degraded). Gotta love SeaSwap. Wink

Please forgive me on this and hopfully we have someone here that is current Navy and may be able to answer this. I thought, since the USS Cole, that there were certain distances that were considered a "hostile threat" and therefor the military is allowed to engage. I had a very close friend who was a MA1 after I had gotten out of the military all together who had talked about this so thats the main reason I am asking.

Now, on the other hand I think that the Capt. made a good call based on what he was being feed or personally seen with these boats. Imagine for a momunt if you will that we blew these fools out of the water, today we would all be talking about the new war with Iran and dont get me wrong, I beleive that we are going to be beating there azz real soon. The part about "were going to blow you up" IMO would have been all it took for me to unload a couple "burp guns Smile" on them but that also why I am not a Capt. of a US Naval ship. For those of you wondering what a burp gun is, it's just a term us Marines use in identifing the Navies SeaWiz guns. These are the white R2D2 looking things that almost every Navy ship has on them. The only movie I can recall where you actually see one being used to get a better idea of what I am talking about is "The sum of all fears" where our Russian friends are attacking our ships. Anyway,

My Father told me of a situation involving his ship (USS WEBER: DE-675)...(the one pictured in te ICON)

A vessel from a foreign country ...I cannot recall which though I believe it may have been an Irish fishing vessel...the vessel was purposely blocking Weber's way into port...the Weber hailed the vessel and informed them to move out of the way to which they did not comply...the Captain order a shot across the vessels bow...the Captain personally informed the vessel of the intentional shot a first warning...he followed by stating the second shot would not be...the vessel moved...

Applause

Iran WANTS us to get into a war w/ them. The last thing we should be doing is anything that would give them a rationalization for it.

You got it Pops, it smelled on Monday, and the "facts" seemed to change every day this week, dribbling out, six days until they see fit to release the raw tape. We fired on them last month, but not news, and now this incident is BIG news. Confused
Somebody got some splainin' to do IMHO.

In my version of the video a raghead veers his craft into one of the boxes that they cast out, and all five Iranian vessels and all crew are destroyed.

Have any of you ever thought that maybe, just maybe one of those Navy Captains wanted one of those fast movers to hit their ship? Think about it? What better way to start a war with Iran then to hit one of our battle ships. Eek
