Finally a story that recognizes the tactical change by the Sunni and the implications. The Sunni are not doing what they are doing for love of country. They are preparing for the battle to come against the Shiia dominated government of Iraq...and we're helping them prepare. We have been so intent on looking for any reason to justify Iraq, we have ignored the underlying problem that exists there...the Sunni and Shiia hate each other and sooner or later there will be a day of reckoning.

Love to read the story Gordon but no link is provided. Remember the Sunni as the moderates. Saddam was a Sunni, 15 Saudi's on 911 was Sunni.

I say lets pull all our troops out of every country and place them on our borders (Mexican and Candian) and let the rest of the world kill off each other. Stop all immigration until the world settles down....it never will. But we will be secure and happy to see what happens in this screwed up world. Gee we tried that immediately after WWI, care to ckeck out the causalty rate for WWII? it numbers in the tens of millions and imbroiled the whole world. Now you have pipsqueak nations with missiles, nukes and or bio/chem weapons, and you want to bury your head in the sand and hide? How long before some whacks you on the *** ?. Get real- to prepare for peace, prepare for war. We have to stay involved, in 1950 the Sec of State left out S Korea in a speech about where our interest lied, 6 months later, N Korea invaded and started the Korean War, which is still going on- an armistice is not a peace treaty!

Sunnis make up about 70% of Muslims worldwide as far as I know.

I agree with you on this, we need to be involved in the world, not too deeply involved in other countries, but enough to be friends and hopefully keep stability and peace throughout

As a former combat leader who delt with the shieks and muktars..my question to those who question our alliance with the "Awakening" is....WHAT THE HELL ELSE ARE WE GONNA DO?!

and we have plenty of money to give to reconstruction. I wouldnt have been able to spend all the money fast enough to those iraqi tribal leaders that had real civil projects in mind...no matter what fake sheik or real shiek wants it. It benefits all.

I chuckled while reading: “…. one American Marine described Anbar's competing Sheiks are "Fake Sheiks, little sheiks and BIG sheiks." 

Do you notice that our Marines did NOT call them “Jihadi Sheiks”?

The only Iraqis who might turn into anti-American Talibans are the Iraqi’s religious Jihadi government.

For example, before the Awakening groups were formed, both al-Hakim and Chalabi were encouraging and watching Naïve Americans and Secular Baathists dueling out and killing each other so they (and Iranians) could “harvest” the “fruits” of controlling Iraq afterwards.

Thank God and Allah, now that both Americans and Sunnis have been “Awaken”, we will wait and see who will turn into anti-American Talibans.

When will people actually realize that the Sunnis and Shias have been fighting for thousands of years? This is nothing new and it will never change.

We are so hated but yet people love to reap the benefits that we offer them.

The problem lies they are sitting on piles of cash in banks, located in other Countries, while we continue to pour additional money in there. IMO, I feel we have reached the point where we have done as much as we can do, and it's time to make 'adjustments'.
