How many times are they going to drop the charges. Isn't this the third story on this?

As to that 1995 Okinawa rape case. I wonder if the Marines found guilty of that rape ever survived the 8-10 year stretch in the Japanese prison they were reportedly sent to??

I've heard some real horror stories about the abusive treatment given prisioners in Japanese prisons.

Too bad she didn't contact Murthas office, he would have convicted them in the media!

One of the star-spangled POS is no longer on this side of the rainbow. The one who 'prevented a rape' by changing his mind, got the lightest sentence. He killed a woman in Georgia, and then himself, last August.

So much for 8-10 in a nipponese prison. Guess President Clinton, when he wasn't busy screwing the armed forces, or something else, saved his Marine azz.

They served time in prison and were released in 2003. DD's all round, of course.

Their case was a little different, the girl was 12 and they admitted doing it.

The four should consider themselves lucky and put in for an immediate transfer out of Japan.

Its to bad people don't wait for the preliminary report before going public. Japan did right by the guys. The Marines and Law Enforcement Agencys should not be dishonored for the media prejudging the case before it went to trial.

Exactly: Congressman John "Highly-decorated Marine" Murtha, who never lets a moment go by to trash the good name of the USMC.

Agreed POS, but why the Star-Spangled Reference?

As for the 4 that charges were dropped on chances are they will finish their tour but will be restricted to base.

Im just glad Japan did the right thing in this case and guys its just a reminder to think with the head on your shoulders rather than the other one. I enjoy getting laid as much as the next guy but common sence and at least some sembelance of good judgement should ALWAYS be applied, overseas especially.

Why should they be restricted to the Base, if they weren't convicted of anything?

To keep them out of trouble. You may not have noticed but facts have nothing to do with how people treat each other. People rely more on the way they feel that what the truth is. Remember Jesus Christ?

Thank you. Duly noted and amended to 'nipponese'.

What's a 'raghead' a 'haji', or a 'jihadist'?

Before they committed the rape, and like the other four fellows, they were America's good-will ambassadors to the Japanese. That's probably what caused most of the fuss. Had there been a war on, it might only have been an unproveable war crime.

JC never joined three apostles for a GB in the back of a chariot after a night in the boozer. If he'd been accused of that he truly would have been without blame.

Perhaps local authorities are getting smarter depending on the wealth of the nation and the income of the populace and are recognizing some of the schemes developed by their citizens. While on active duty from 1961 to 1981 I had tours of duty in East Asia, Europe, and the Mid-East. There were cases in which parents pushed/shoved their young children in front of vehicles driven by Americans so they could collect Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) funds at the expense of the U.S. Government. The last one I was involved in 1977 in Saudi Arabia was at night during a major sandstorm when an AF MSgt was trying to get to a Saudi Army Base. A South Yemen man walking down the middle of the road wearing dark clothing with a dark head covering.
Unfortunately the Yemeni was killed and the MSgt was charged and placed under house arrest and required to live with me in my custody. After an investigation revealed that the Yemeni had lost his job in Saudi Arabia, was living off friends, and had talked with friends about taking his own life, he was walking down a mostly military section of roadway, in the middle of the road, with dark clothing head to foot, at a time of day when all Saudis were off the roadways because of prayer call time. A slam dunk suicide aimed at both the Saudi and U.S. Militaries who were known to compensate well. Fortunately the MSgt was exhonorated in a Saudi court as a victim involved in an unavoidable death. Under Saudi Law and SOFA negotiations, the family of the Yemeni was awarded the price of 30 camels and some unremembered other things, plus all costs for upkeep for the wife until death, and four children until adulthood, which was to age 21 at the time. Things aren't cheap in Saudi Arabia so the U.S. outlay in this case was obviously in the millions. In saying this, my question becomes, "Are there elements in foreign countries with creative design to bilk the Americans for every nickel possible in the form of faked activity and lawsuits"? Without a doubt. I love you too!

I have been hearing the term spin doctor a lot. I have witnessed people spin tales all my life to gain some unfair advantage over others. I was told that spin doctors have become more frequent since the 80s. Kind of hard to know who is telling the truth now days. Its a lot nicer when you can trust people to tell you the truth. I guess the truth is not politically correct. People will spin tales to keep the truth under wraps. Im just an observer and call things as they are without coloring the facts. I have had people tell me I got issues for not agreeing with them. The only part of that that could be true is when people spin a lie to spite me for a difference of opinion.

It wouldn't do any good, I knew a couple of guys who got called back to Okinawa for a charge the JP's levelled at them. The US government was only too happy to ship those guys back to the island to stand trial.
