Thank you General for speaking your opinion. Just about everyone here with a GED will agree with you. Until we put a stop to our need for foreign energy we will be in the middle east. People will continue to fight and die over oil and people will continue to get rich off of these two items. War and oil. So life goes on. |

I believe President Bush said about the same in Sept. 2001.
However, the Mideast Wars started a long time ago. Probably prior to the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. As Duster6 said, world dependence on ME Oil is, more than likely, a major factor in the conflict. Developing increased Nuclear and Hydro-electric power will go a long way in diffusing the ME. The US could best help by intensifying hydrogen fuel cell technology R&D. In the ME; religion is merely a tool, the money and power from oil is the reason. |

I agree. Most people who had to get a GED are likely to agree with him. But the rest of us, those who graduated HS, are likely NOT to believe his load of crap. But the fact is that the Middle Eastern nations did just FINE making war against each other long before WE ever got involved, and they will likely continue to follow their age old custom of mutual annihilation for as long as ANOTHER 5,000 years... without the need for US to sacrifice any more of our youngest and brightest. |

Duster you could have not said it better.
Imperial Rome could not tame them - Imperial Washington DC - the more things change the more they stay the same. I wonder what history will think of us? We need to develop our own sources of energy, and get out of other peoples countrys. What is interesting my husband and I were speaking of the drought Wednesday night, I wonder if the next war will be over water. Patti |

Morning boys and girls. Some of us have been saying this for a long time. This is an occupation coupled to a civil war, and it's going to run and run and run. We will not abandon those bases and just leave, nor will we leave all that lovely OIL behind. We've got what we went for now--military bases on top of a lake of oil and the occupation of the ME is going to be a permanent fixture in US and UK foreign policy. We're just going to have to get used to it.

The parting words from President Eisenhower was "Beware the power of the military-industrial complex!" (Or words to that effect.)
General Abizaid must have found his nipple at the M-I complex sow. The United States Military should have been removed from Europe and Japan after 1992. The U.S. could have transferred control of the South Korean military to that country's own leaders decades ago. The United States could have reduced its presence back to pre-1990 levels after the first Gulf War. None of these moves have been made. The people who control our country like "small wars". The longer and smaller the better. They will never let us get by without some enemy to fight somewhere. That's their excuse for keeping the rest of us in line! Just in the small chance that we actually kill or incarcerate every moslem in Asia willing to defy their authority, the U.S. has set up a new front in Africa. If I live to 100, I will not live long eneough to see that the United States military has been withdrawn from all foreign soil! |

People fail to understand that oil is a primary necessity for our day to day lives. People say we should be there for oil and stuff, and then would drive their gas guzzling SUVs and Hummers while drinking their cappuccinos from Starbucks. No one comprehends the importance of oil in our lives, in our children’s lives, and eventually in our grandchildren’s lives.

Allow me to put in my two cents. I am a new christian, and according to scripture, now that Russia(Gog) and Persia (known today as Iran) make alliances. We don't have fifty years. Prophet Ezekial prophecied 2000 yrs ago exactly what is taking place today. I believe we are going to see the largest redeployment of soldiers that the Lord himself has called home to prepare for the greatest battle ever. I personally am pumped and ready to see my son a fallen hero return to reclaim Earth as the Bible says will happen. Have a wonderful day folks...

Friscdolady!
You know, some of us get a bit tired of some excon preaching to us. "Imperial" Washington DC? What nonsense. You would not know an "imperial" entity from a jail cell. You wonder what "history" will think of us? If you ever read "history" you would find it "thinks" whatever the author who wrote it thinks, and you can always find different conclusions and different "thoughts" from different authors. To understand history YOU have to think for yourself. Very difficult for a leftist like you, who needs to be told what to think. The daily party line can't help you much with really deep thought, but then, in my opinion, your just not up to the challenge, anyway. Personally, I do not intend to die for what some airhead overseas or in Frisco "thinks" is some moral wonderment. I do not intend to "share" with every lazy bum in the world, either. 'WE need to develop our own sources of energy'? My, what a deep thought! Knowing you and your handlers, that probably means wind, sun, and such. Of course, we can't drill for oil! Why, thats immoral or some such fantastic nonsense. You wonder if the next war will be over water? I would not worry your little head over that. This war is NOT over oil, as your unstated hint would indicate. It's over the thousands of REAL Americans (not those like you) who were murdered in NYC, and around the world, by Islamic savages. It is over the many attacks stopped by our wonderful Homeland Security. Its over the many evil Islamic sleeper cells now operating in our country. Remember Ft Dix? The NYC pipeline? Finally, there would be nothing "immoral" about our taking and using that Iranian oil for our own benefit. OIL is the economic weapon that has murdered all those above named, and many thousands more over the world. It pays for the deaths of our warriors. It probably contributes to the election campaigns of our corrupt politicsl bums. Without that oil wealth, countries like Iran would shrink back into helpless trash states, like San Francisco. Oil robs our people at the gas pump. We SHOULD, absolutely, TAKE THAT OIL! Save our country first. So, people like you should go back to your blogs, moveon.org, and such trash sites, where the I'Q.'s are as low as yours, and people actually BELIEVE your fantasies, my dear. |

Drill in the Gulf, drill off the East coast, drill in Alaska, and put some real effort into finding different types of energy (other than oil).. Chri** on a crutch didn't we used to be a country that invented things??
Seems the only thing we invent nodays, is different ways to pi$$ different people off, and get our sons and daughters killed.. Re: Gen. Abizaid's comments.. Thank You Sir!!!! |

Killtosave!
Your absolutely correct. "People" may just find out how important oil is this very winter. As to the SUV's and Starbucks, you see, these morons are too stupid or lazy to make the big bucks and to buy their own coffe or SUV's and jealous of those who can! These are the same bums who complain the "rich" do not "share" with them, while they don't make any effort to qualify themselves for employment, and produce many more children they can support on their welfare checks. Prime "useful idiots" for the left in our politics. If there is a true replacement for oil, and it is probably in the oil shale, it's many decades away in any case. In the meantime, WE have to take care of the USA FIRST!!! That means taking their oil weapon we need to get started very soon. |

Ed594, the reason you dislike Friscolady is obvious: she makes you think ... A process is that obviously is both painful and inconvenient for you ... The reason being, your beliefs are fact-free and make zero sense ... America is in trouble `cuz too many politicians pander to people like you ... Karl Rove's political strategy---which way too many politicians still follow---"Tell voters what they WANT to hear, not what they NEED to hear" has led America to embrace incompetence and disaster, and it is killing our soldiers. That is the plain truth. |

Let me just add, as I have a number of other times and places. "East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet" May not be EXACTLY what Kipling ment, but it sure seems to fit to my way of thinking. |

And what is wrong with a draft. Seems to me it might get our young off their young arses and out doing something worthwhile rather than sitting in front of the idiot box or computer for 12 hours a day. We are the country that started the electronic revolution and have toyed with all manner of energy sources. We should, if the oil people would stop screaming be able to find alternate fuel to run our economy. And while doing that park our cars and walk the two blocks to the store.

Now, General Abizaid!
He has been a straight shooter and talker now every since he was first involved in this war. Leads me on occasion to wonder if that is the the reason he was replaced by more pliable Generals, who mouth the PC answers and comments. I agree with those who think this war may go on for decades. It certainly will if we allow these savages to control that oil wealth, and if we do, we could very well LOSE this war. THose are just the facts of the matter. Once again, OUR country should come first in all things, that is not just morality, it IS our scared DUTY as citizens. What "the world" thinks? What "history" thinks"?Reality is, Neither of these "think." The opinions of "the world" always favor the winner. The one with the big bucks to spend or give away. All those weapons killing our warriors in Afganistan or Iraq are not gifts. That nuclears weapons plant being built in Iran, those delivery systems being sold, are not gifts. They are well paid for with your oil money. |

Ed do me a favor go do your hate mongering else where I was serving this country before you were a glimmer in you Grandmother's, let alone your mother's eyes. I could care less what your problem is - however you are beginning to bore me. When I spoke of developing our own sources of energy, I meant drilling where we need too - off our coasts, nuclear, etc.. Then maybe we would not have to waste our wealth and our children on this mess. The most exotic source that I could think of that I might be in favor of would be coal gasification, which has been used in europe in the past, specifically Germany 60 years ago, but only in a wartime use, it would probably prove to costly for peacetime use anywhere. So that would be out. Why don't you grow up and think yourself, then I wonder why I am having a discussion with someone who needs to mature quite abit. As for your comment about from where I am preaching to quote you, Child you obviously do not understand that a lot of things happen to good people - you have not even taken the time to research my posts then you would know what led me to where I have been. That is not my entirity of my life, just as your hatred and comtempt of that you do not understand or care to understand is not the entirity of your life. I happen to be quite proud of my service (the twenty years I spent in the military) to this country. I have never been on welfare, I have worked for everything I have and I find your insinuation offensive (in a previous post of yours). I was serving this country, raising 4 children alone (buried one) and providing a good home to them - while continuing my education - something that maybe you should do. I just happen to disagree with this administration - and for that matter the last one. Oh and don't ever throw the victims of 9/11 in my face, one of them was a dear friend of mine. You are a disgrace to her memory! Why don't you ask people what they mean then have a meaningful discussion with such instead of acting like some many else I have seen here an reacting with a hateful diatribe such as above. You have only demonstrated your ignorance and hate for those different in either background or beliefs than you. Patti This message has been edited. Last edited by: FriscoLady01, |
