Yank YouTube?

Yeah, and because they don't really want too much actual-news to get them all riled up, after all... they might aquire an opinion or two.

Whoever "they" are can acquire opinions on their own time & own dime.

LtGen Croom needs a swift kick in the teeth: operational reasons? No, sir, YouTube et al. big friggin' wastes of time.

Security risks? Enough with the nonsense chatter, flag O's: nobody in the country knows jack about security, especially the illiterate coots we fawn over.

No one should ever have had access to that junk on mil. computers: that they did sounds like a good reason to publicly waterboard all in charge, starting @the top & working our way slowly & painfully down the knotty links that pass for a chain of command.

Except, it's not on Military Computers, it's on Military ACCESS providers. The troops just might be using their OWN computers, ya think?

And this IS about controlling the flow of information.

The inability to effectively use modern information channels, like Youtube, is why the West is not winning the war on terror faster.

Every time the terrorists do something, its up on youtube in propaganda friendly format within hours. The Western governments and armed forces hardly ever use the same channels. Meaning the terrorists are slowly winning the propaganda war.

Closing down access to Youtube for soldiers wont help. Instead, they should be given crash courses in creating cool, SAFE and motivating videos to spread in an effort to counter terrorist propaganda. Prime example being stuff like "Lazy Ramadi", "Is this the way to Armadillo" and the countless clips from Canadian engagements in Afghanistan.

Hey Hult,
Why would they do that?
This is the military don't you know?
If you have the smallest of problems you hit it with the biggest of hammers... LOL
They don't want to take the "time" to teach anyone; to them just blocking it all is easier and who cares about the soldiers/sailors/airmen/ and marines? We're nothing more than numbers to today's Generals and Politicians. Nothing eve changes when you revert back to the Old Guard. We're seeing numbers in the news now days instead of facts and the "powers that be" feel this is a means to justify the way things are. Sound familiar??? It certainly does to me. We're heading for another Political fact of how this war is nothing more than a tool between the Dem's and Rep's to better them and to hell with the people fighting it. Viet Nam all over.

You're all incorrect...or sometimes correct but for the wrong reasons. Yes it is a restriction on information flow. The military has an obligation to restrict what is generated and transmitted on government systems. Valuable bandwidth needs to be reserved for "operational issues". Not ridiculous, sophomoric web sits.

True scenario...GI Joe requests intel feed to determine insurgent activity in the next village. Actionable intel is late getting to the warfighter because a bunch of yahoos are back in Camp Whatever surfing the web. Not good.

From a coward who always kept their head down. I would have tought some of the items on youtube could actually help in training. for instance I was a very good shot [big head]and always knew someone else could make me go away from hundreds of metres away, some of my friends who were not marksmen would stand in the open oblivious of any possible sniper attack. If your military showed some of the attcks on your own troops in Iraq I would certainly predict it would make some of your soldiers think about taking cover some/all the time they are not moving. Basic training. Just look at some of the attacks by Iraqi snipers, and I know you cannot stop all the sniper attacks, but I think it would make it more difficult if soldiers realised that a good sniper can hit a small target from over six hundred metres if not more, without being seen and shooting through buildings and from the backs of vehicles, that drive off after a shot. I tried to give information to a military org of yours and get ****** off that if one of your own snipers targeted your soldiers with a sniper sighted camera, and took pictures of your soldiers on patrol in the sights of a sniper rifle they might just realise to take more care of themselves and they friends around them [that is asymmetric] Youtube can be helpful, do not just look at terrorists getting what they deserve, also look at the Iraqi terrorists going after your men and women. Think like the new group you have AWG Asymmetric Warfare Group, every attack on any soldier should be looked at and analysed for ways of learning and training. It might look good on parade standing up through the hole in the top of your Humpy, but you do make a good target, and standing still outside of one. Youtube can be good if it is used asymmetrically.

A very astute observation, to block their only means of getting the news is just like communism or something. I wonder if they make them all wear tin foil hats too, you know some of those stray signals coming in could get them really confused about what is going on.

Our only hope is, they will reconsider and at least let the real news reach them through youtube, since there is no other possible way for the news to reach our men in uniform.

Down with the military regulations and up with the freedom of the troops to form intelligent opinions from the information that can be gained from youtube.

Tokyo Rose and Axes Sally would have fit well into your scenario as well. I am sure the enemy knows how to encourage the troops and provide them with adequate training in the art of defensive combat.

I agree with you. But, contrary to you, I was a dyed in the wool Republican, born in Iowa from a linage of Republican's since the first one! Bush's conduct on this war and so many other things, including all the Shenanigans of his entire administration, forced me to jump ship and become an Independent after 42 years!

The latest shenanigan is this deal that Bush wants the new Vet's to receive higher benefits then the rest of us! He's managed to divide the country completely, somuch so that people bitterly resent each other because of their view on this war, now he wants to divide the Veteran's! This Congress will never approve a bill like that, they'd be crazy if they did. So, this is just another attempt to hornswaggle the American Public, because this bill has absolutely no chance to become law. Grrrrr Totally disguested! Sleeping
