Bad things do happen in combat, but it was his duty to at least investigate it. If he didn't do that than he should be prosecuted.

hm i think this is prob a show trial. while almost all of the marines have been aquited, or had thier charges dismissed, they stay after the CO. though he could have done more "investigating", if he thought it was legitimate combat, why should he? he may still be able to win the courtsmartial, but his carreer is over. as to the enlisted man, he was either following orders/training sop, or not. if his squad leader goes with the court then he's screwed. if he thinks his man did his job, he's gonna be ok, but his career is over too.

Taking bets..... the officer gets off easy and the enlisted gets hosed, any takers?

If the others involved in the murders have been acquitted how is it that LCPL Tatum is still being tried? Werent they all together?

The white-washing of this massacre is nearly complete. Too many dead for the cover-up to be successful, the crimes have been watered-down and the "evidence" reduced to circumstantial allegations. Protecting the reputation of the Corps has triumphed over justice.

Remember that the General who adjuticates over this is the same one who said "killing folks is fun" early on in the war. I believe that would be a conflict of interest but I am not the JCS or HQMC.

I don't see how Chessani could not be held negligent for failing to investigate the deaths of 24 civilians. His assertion that it was in combat, so end of story, is ridiculous. He should have been on scene immediately. He should have made sure the scene was not disturbed until it was investigated and proper documentation made of the incident. He should have immediately met with community leaders to discuss and mediate over this tragic incident. No matter whether the actions of the marines were justified or unjustified, this incident will always have an air of cover-up and this is Chessani's fault.

WTF is that all about? I saw in one of your previous post that you voted for Rep Stark. I'm not surprised.
