Although I don't fly often, I've always wanted a seat at "the back of the bus". I never really knew why but always had a gut feeling that it was the right place to be. Thanks for some actual stats supporting my superstitions.
They should but all the heavyer people in the extreme rear and lighter people towards the front to avoid human missile damage. I always liked being near an exit with a pretty girl in front of me. In case I had to kiss someones butt goodby. Also take Moms advice and make sure your always wereing clean skiviees in case of an accident, even though they may not stay clean. Also an overweight persons jacket canbe used as a make shift parachute.

The thing that sucks about a crash is not to many survive. They don;t crash often but when they do it's big news. Maybe one day the technology will be there that will allow a higher rate of surviving an airplane crash. I could soo 300 ejection seats blasting off at once...now that would be something!

Its usually not the fall that kills you,its the sudden stop. Unless you are prone to heart failure. I just realized something, peoples carreers are the same way. Its not the fall from power, its the sudden stop.

Here is a story for you. After graduating boot camp I was given a choise to go on my first leave, followed by HARP {a recruiter assistance program} or go to San Diego for Electronics training. I decided to go home first. The Flight Number was US Air 201. The plane I would have been on if I went to San Diego was a DC 10. It lost an engine shortly after take off and they're were no survivers that I can recall. Since 201 was my Companies graduating class number, it became my lucky number.
When it's your time it's your time, end of story. You know I fly quite often and I don't worry about crashing that much. I have even had a repitive nightmare for years about being in a plane crash and in the dream I always walk away without a scratch. Do you think that has some sort of meaning to it?

My sister is always repeating the same old jokes. One being, "when it's your time to go, it's your time to go. But, when it's the pilots time to go, everyone's screwed".
For those veterans that were at DaNang when the Navy Constellation's wing clipped the cement hangar cover, when it avoided an Army small transport during landing, the only thing remaining of that large plane was its tail section with two sailors stilled strapped in their seats. Talk about guys that qualified for a miracle and have a heck of a story to tell over a drink.
