If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause. Paul Tindale |
If it will reduce the wash-out rate and increase the basic soldiers skills, bravo. I'm not so sure that FireflyJMS2's comment about 13 weeks has any basis. Training time should equal what time it takes to learn the tasks. Time has nothing to do with it. I am sure most can remember that obviously obnoxious class the LT or CPT taught that crammed 10 minutes worth of information into a 2 hour mandatory class. Have a good day!~!

One extra week of a more gentler, kindler basic training for future Soldiers. Also an extra week for the male drill sergeants to lay a couple of more female privates!! WHOOOOOPPPEEEE!

I'm pretty sure Firefly is making a subtle reference to Marine boot camp....

Train to standard, not to time.

Time will help training efforts no matter what is trained. Some people require less and some reqire more. Its a good call.

Ah, yes. And of course the Corps has never done anything like that! They just seem to be able to kill off a few of the runts during boot. But hey!! They were just slugs anyway, right? Seem to remember that the Army is not alone in having overbearing drills with sexual desires. But in the end, it is the results that count. By the way, just what is the explanation in a member's profile that states: Marine Corps, Other Military Program?? Is that JROTC, or what? And by the way Staff, you ever put the move on a female subordinate? Just asking. Have a good day!~! |

Can't remember a time a male Drill Instructor had sex with female recruits at Parris Island! Doesn't happen at MCRD San Diego because females don't go to MCRD San Diego for Boot Camp! Don't worry the Army has their fair share of privates dying in basic but I am not going to even go there! No I have never have put the moves on female subordinates that I worked. Question when do the privates have time to have sex in Basic Training for the Army? Just curious!

It is documented that sex in Army Basic Training is going on! Some Drill Sergeants have even been discipline for it! Just stating facts. It was joke that was based off true stories!

Well, good for you! But in these days, need to be careful about the jokes. The old days are long gone. Don't even try a BAM joke. And, you could have put that in you bio. Being up front is better than leaving you open to questions. And by the way, my understanding of Marine training is that you don't really have personal time. How do you manage to have the luxury and time to post here? Have a Semper Fei day. |

As was posted above, train to the standards, not time. I like that. As for being soft. Oh, jeez! Every generation of military person always bemoans how soft the new generation is. Well, in my time........ Just another old fart, and ya don't necessarily havta be old, trying to explain to the new generation of softies how easy they have it and how hard it was for him/her. I went through basic in 68. I must have been in the minority, because I thought it was fun. Not hard, just a blast. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, was I better prepared after I came out of basic than the new breed? Don't know. Just because it was hard, does not necessarily mean it was better. Standards and methods of instruction are different. Hopefully, for the better. Getting yelled at, kicked, and struck by a drill does not improve the recruit or end results. Mine was the "new Army" where they could not strike you and leave obvious marks. But getting hit in the head with just a helmet liner on with the butt of a M-14 will ring your bells. Now, just what did that accomplish. Little to nothing, except a splitting headache. So, tell me why 13 weeks is better. It is the end results that dictates how long, hard, intricate and detailed a POI should be. It may be right for the Corps, but not necessarily for the Army. After all, right after basic comes AIT and the real learning. Have a good day!~ |

i agree that no time standard is a good idea. as far as i know Marine boot camp sorta does this though. i heard if you fail a week you go back and do it again. so it could end up being 14 or 15 weeks. im not sure how the other branches work with that n im not even completely sure how enlisted training for the Marines works.

Ok so maybe its not the 13 weeks that makes Marines real Men or Women, it's really all about the training and considering that Marines kick a$$ then maybe the rest of the services should jump on board and quit being so soft on their recruits.
Oh and for the record I am definately not an old fart, last I checked I am only 28. Also you do know that right after Marine Recruit Training we then go to Marine Corps Combat Training. So we don't just stop the real learning as you put it so kindly. So No really you have a wonderful day. |

Well, the only female Marine at MCRD San Diego is too young for anybody to put the moves on. |
