Semper Fidelis: IT WAS DONE WITHOUT LOWERING STANDARDS. I hope that the majority of recruiters did not "fudge" to make "quota". I know the pressure of making quota from a tour in recruiting. I still have my faith in Marine leadership despite the failure of national political leadership.
NOW: let us resolve to press for withdrawal from Iraq so that these American warrions are not squandered on a misguided, ill planned expedition.
America always has and always will need a select MARINE CORPS of highly motivated patriot sons to pull it's irons out of the fire.
Thats good over all. I live in RS Racine, WI. Our station had 36 recruits in boot at one time last month. I ship out with 3 others November 5th its a privilege to be a part of something so powerful. If only I could get 2 crazy referrals to make pfc .
LET US KNOW SNEAKYZAPPER............one old retread is praying for you: Pvt or PFC !
SEMPER FI ! After retiring I needed something beyond the Commandant to put my faith in. Ended up with Jesus Christ and signed up for life.

It's hard to be humble when you're the world's finest! Looks like the Corps is still in demand and that there are plenty of those 'few good men and women' that want to become Marines.
There were 234,000 Marines when I served 1974-78. I get somewhat concerned when I read of today's number, but know that the Corps of today is a trimmed down, motivated, whoop-a** fighting force that gets the job done. Well, that is if the politicians will let them.
I never was a Marine. Know plenty Ex's now. Served with some in my 20 at various times places. Not all saints, all the time but always reassuring to have up front or on either side of where I was at. Glad to see our youth are still motivated to Be part of The Few, The Brave, The Marines. America will always have the Many, The Cowards, the mushy middle who are shielded by those who aren't. Flight 93 proved that American in civies aren't cowards, waiting for someone else. We shouldn't forget those civilians are worth fighting for.
It's good to see we did not lower our standards like other branches. The old "we never promised you a rose garden" still rings true today. Marine recruiters are probably the hardest working Marines out there and they sacrifice a lot just to make mission. They (recruiters), should be commended for their efforts. Semper Fi!
"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph." -Thomas Paine, 1778. These words have never been more true than today. What will the naysayers in America say now?

Fantastic! In our changing world I'd like to see the Marine Corps go to four ready divisions, with the reserve component redesignated the 5th Marine Division and 5th Marine Airwing.
