I know this to be true because my husband got it about 10 years after he returned home from Viet Nam.

From the Department of Redundancy Department, we do have a PTSD forum here on military.com.

You can find it right here.

It's likely that the public cannot be told enough about combat-related PTSD.

Thanks.

I have noticed the many folks who suffer from PTSD, I suffer from it myself, I have also noticed the crap we have to go through to get something done about it. I am glad to read there are support groups and so on. I am finding out to become part of any group one has to have a Doctor from the VA say Yes. Now my experience with the VA is some of these Doctors could not find their own butt with a compass and map. This to me is nothing more than a way to say tough get over it.

I am still trying to find peace within myself and will never know the answers to many questions. I stand tall and keep living for my buddies left behind. I hope the new group will pick up the flag and help one another to survive the day.

PTSD is a reality of life for those who've been in combat. I'm a Vietnam War vet with severe PTSD. I was a Navy Corspman with the 3rd Marine Division/26th Marines from 66-67. Two Marines died in my arms. I still see them in my dreams. I have also worked for both the VA and DOD in the health care field. I finally had to retire last year in October after over 36 years of federal service because of my worsening symptoms due to PTSD. Today, I am a disabled vet and "unemployable" (IU), so I know what I'm talking about. That is why I feel for my fellow vets who are struggling with this illness and who in the majority of cases are not getting the treatment and compensation they deserve. Hang in there, hang tough, and take care. God bless.

(If you have access to the "Veterans' Voices" magazine, see the Summer publication. Note my testimonial on the back cover of the magazine. It's in dedication to ALL my fellow vets.)

If you know that much... why not step back and stop victimizing yourself. You seem to have a good enough mind to reason out what was then and what is now.

I am rated at 100% P&T... not ui...I did not realize that I had PTSD for a period of over 20 years. It took me 8 months to go through the system to get my rating... I am now getting treatment and thankful that I can now start dealing with my inner thoughts... For those of you out there that have been in similar circumstances and have doubt with the system...OK...It took me time to trust the system, It worked for me.

Aloha

In viewing your public profile, I see you claim the Medal for Humane Action. See the criteria:Criteria: a. The Medal for Humane Action was awarded for qualifying service between 26 June 1948 and 30 September 1949.

b. The medal commemorates military service in direct support of the Berlin Airlift. It was awarded to members of the Armed Forces for 120 consecutive days of service in, or in direct support of, the Berlin airlift, between 26 June 1948 and 30 September 1949, within the following prescribed boundaries:

(1) Northern Boundary - 54th parallel north latitude.

(2) Eastern Boundary - 14th meridian east longitude.

(3) Southern Boundary - 48th parallel north latitude.

(4) Western Boundary - 5th meridian west longitude.

Also, I notice the Vietnam service through Iraq Campaign medals. If you were involved in the Berlin Airlift, as late as 1949, and served in Iraqi Freedom, I think we have a new record for the Baghdad Chapter of the AARP. You may have made a mistake, and if you have, I apologize. But, for now, I call BS on you, and claim you are a POSER. If you meant to put the Humanitarian Service Medal, okay. But, I still say, if you were in Special Forces, and a commissioned officer, you should know the freekin difference, no excuses. POSER!!!

If anyone thinks I'm out of line, gimme a heads up, but my BS meter is completely pegged. I did not suffer what I suffered (nor did you other vets), to let someone play soldier on this forum. I was a freeekin Air National Guard guy, after doing all of my active time in the Marine Corps, when I got ripped out of my civilian life and dumped into Northern Afghanistan in late 2001. I am glad that I got to do it, but it was a serious negative on my personal/family life when I got activated for 9/11. I see a lot of posers that have experienced nothing more adversarial than having the battery go out on the TV remote, and when my Spidey-sense goes off, it is usually dead on.

If a person was 17 years old in 1949, then that means in 2003 they would be at least 71 years old. I don't recall seeing any service members that age when I was in Iraq....or the States, for that matter.

Delayed for years is no lie. Uncle Sam DID A GREAT JOB OF BLOWING SMOKE TO ME. It really sucks when one agency find's that you have P.T.S.D. And you get denied by the V.A. then ten years later they say that you do have it but at the same time another doctor say's that you only have partial p.t.s.d. Now maybe someone can tell me how one doctor can find one thing yet the other say partial and on top of it all they tell me not to work because of depression /unpredictable out burst's of anger but they say that i am not bad enough for diability payments but social security pays me because of it......Let me know what you folk's think. ........tim.........
